I usually use the pliers but found with all of them back at camp found it a lot faster to get the easy ones in one wack. If I am not pressed for time I do it as each set like you. I like when they are froze hard as the foot will just crack off mostly.

With my luck I'd put the ax through the back. The other thing I like about the wire cutters is you don't have any bleeding when they thaw.

Nice job Len. How many climbers? No canopener? I'm sure he's around.

With the snow like we have this year, I've had my Polaris on it's side at least a dozen times. I did it yesterday and Fish laughed at me, again.

Dang Todd, I could have used that advice 10 years ago.

Pretty nice catch Len, for the toes I use small tin snips with a hole drilled through the handle and wired to my bait box for a dummy don't loose it like myself..

On your carb problem I always have a thurmos with something hot and pour a little right on carb to clear it or take a short leak on it, also it looks like the plug hole for putting clutch puller through isn't there and will suck fine snow in and ice up, just tape it if the plug isn't around.

Len, I have been wondering about those marten feet you whacked off with your hatchet. How did they come out?

Your carb problem is carb ice. If you can eliminate the snow going under the hood, you will somewhat eliminate the problem. Snow melts on the muff......moisture is sucked in the air intake and freezes when it enters the carb. Your air holes end up plugged. Same thing sorta, happens in airplanes. That's why small planes have a carb heat handle/valve. If it happens again, you may be able to solve it without disassembly by using your propane torch......CAREFULLY!

Ken I am writing down the info. Man 50 marten are a lot to skin. I am up to my eyeballs in things to do. So amped up with the Nafa receiving date coming up on me that I have not slept since I got home. Two nights now going full bore. How set in stone is the date. Bob Green told me last year that he ships stuff down well after the last date. Just not guarenteed. My back up is FTA sale or what ever it is called. I will send my last batch of marten there. Trying to get my lynx and marten to Nafa right now. Not sure I will make it. I got to get out and pull my marten line starting Friday.
Pulled half my lynx line today. Got a nice female and decent male. Building more lynx stretchers etc. Running on Adrenaline.

Marten Pine the feet did fine. I got blood from only two and it wasn't bad. Most seemed to just dry up. No blood at all. I like the tin snips idea Tak. My side cutters are king of a pain. Maybe a pair of dykes.

I have sent fur late to Western Canadian. I called them first and they said OK as long as it's only one species. Good luck. I know that's lots of work doing a bunch at a time.

NAFA is MArch 31 for the May sale, June 2 for the September sale.

I can't find a schedule for FHA. Call Mattiie. He should know since he's the agent.

Very nice journel FT. Kinda struck me odd with your bait comment. I don't consider our crowd as "lurkers" and I have given advice and help when ever asked along with everyone eles here. Unlike you to keep secrets when so many have helped you. I don't expect a flood of trappers to hit your area with your secret bait and take all your marten so what gives? Please don't make me have to PM you, don't do it,LOL!!!

Steve, I think he meant people who aren't in support of trapping, and his bait might be "less conventional". I'm guessing....

that is a holiday..
and is that HIS last recieving day or at NAFA, cause that is what got us boogered up this time.

the date he said was the last recieving date, and i guess when they actually got there(NAFA) they were too late.

Per the phone conversation, he said that his last receiving date was March 31. He did say early the first week of April would work, but recommended by March 31.

Maybe someone else could give him a call to see if what I am posting is on par on what they get.

Man I get caught up in fur and my journal becomes a traffic Jam.
Bait? I guess the fact that it was such a major change made me feel guarded. I would be more than happy to share. Nothing new in the bait world.
I guess I could have not shared anything about the change in bait but I chose not to.
