Sounds like your remembering the REASON why we got in this mess to begin with! For the FUN of it. Easy to lose sight of that whacking 100 dollar otter and truck loads of beaver everyday, lol.

Id rather go mink trapping with ya than fooling with stupid beaver, haul nelly out on that mess, i'll sleep in, ya'll pick me up around noon when you head out to check mink traps, lol.

Are you sure you arent trapping on my ground in Georgia Jackie? It sure looks familiar with all the pines and sand.LOL

There are a couple of young fellers from pa. that think all their sets should be big hole sets like that. Someone had to show them that it was over kill,a waste of good energy and time to construct and just not necessary or significantly better then my 24 volt drill auger 4" hole.LOL If I want a bigger hole I look for a vacated old groundhog burrow and set on the mound.

Definitely a good change up set. I pre dig them for winter trapping at times.

Thats up in my old home town area where i grew up and cut my teeth on fox trapping Bob. This part of the state I live in now there's not enough money in the world to get me to dig holes like that, lol. All gooey red clay! I stick to flat/blind sets here and it's a JOB getting them in sometimes!

Id get lazy over in that ga. sand, easy setting in that stuff.

If i was in pa. id probably just wiggle a rebar around for a hole, set and go! Guess that's called a mouse hole set?

At sets I use that look similar to J's, for bobcat and coyote I keep the trap pan back about 9" to 10" from the hole and offset right about 1 1/2" to 2". This works real well for me, catch 90% of the cats and coyotes by the right front foot before they ever had a chance to dig into or even touch the hole. The modest step-down of 1/2" or so ensures a good high paw catch too. Ace

would that miss the fox or should i use 2 traps one a little closer to the hole.
