you look like a good feller so im gonna give ya just a bit of Advice, ist your set is fine, but the bale is valuable abd much better saved for when the snow get s to flying or the muck ankle deep, it will make several set and can be used both for the backing and the cover material then, right in front of the bale, opposite you is a corn stalk bent at an angle, there is ground duff right in frount of it and around it, srape the duff into a bit of a furrow in front of and just around the stalk, leave a bare spot for your trap and stake, dig your bed stake and p[lace the trap, then dig a small dirthole or punch a stake and wobble out a snmall hole into the base of the bent stalk, put some lure or bait in the hole and spray some urine on the stalk, now go 20 feet and do the same thing, after a catch pull the debris into a pile and plant a new stalk, new hole etc., lots faster, lots cheaper, and ya still have that prety straw bale to use come winter, good luck fellow.

If you have bobcats in the area- You may need to conceal a trap on top of the bale of straw. I knew a trapper that would put a trap on top and did catch a few cats. I've never tried it. Good luck.

I have thought about doing this when I catch a skunk in a trap. Shoot the skunk and put a bale on top of it and then set traps like you have done. I've got about 1200 square bales to work with. I could make a lot of sets. Also have 1500 round bales. May be able to catch a whole pack of coyotes with one of them.
