I don't think the size of the pipe makes much difference It's the eye appeal(the color white) But I would use the larger pipe. I normaly use 1 1/4 or up to 2" just more eye appeal.
I don't know why you would use a ellbow.

Most any size will work.I would use 3/4 or 1" cause the coon has to lick the bait out of the pipe, they can't reach in with their paws to get the bait. The licking causes them to move around more and increases your chance they will tramp on the pan of your trap. The only advantage of the elbow is that it will make bait or lure last longer because the rain and snow won't get down inside the pipe to dilute what you have in there. Most guys don't go to the extra expence for the cost of the elbow or the time it takes to make them up.

I used a 2 inch pipe and stuffed a piece of salted shad in it so the coon will have to work to get it out. I also poured fish oil in the pipe. The oil will flost on top of the water and stay around a while. Haven't caught anything yet...

Until I see a coon with a ruler measuring the diameter of a pvc pipe I'll use whatever size is handy!

black lab,

I use PVC sets. The 1" will work fine. The elbows need to be the same size. You dont need to glue them. THey will fit snug. I shove a piece of cotton in the bend so my lure/bait does not fall all the way down.

I like some of the others do not think that the size matters too much. Just get some good bait in it and cover up the back of it well.

I've been using 1.5" pvc, but I think the 1" will be fine. Both these coons were caught in pvc sets.
