My recollection is that the black version is designed for more temperate conditions with higher relative humidities.

Thus, since you are headed for the Banana Belt (Kenai, Homer, Soldotna...) you might want to choose those black ones.

Thanks Pete,

I havent ruled out going to fairbanks area yet, no snow in kenai area come winter? Maybe I rerun some of my trapping area around Chitina, richardson highway area, just going to follow the wind and see where I settle...

The snow around the kenai area is partly rain with lots of freeze/thaw so you end up with icy conditions. I've never used the black boots so I can't say. The whites seem to do the job well though.

I guess it depends on how well you want to coordinate your footgear with the rest of your trapping ensemble.

Thanks Ken,

Got beat up on my marten this year at western canadian, going to send to FHA this coming season, didnt like the way west/canadian handled the auction, and heard some rumors of amrten being held back for private treaty, plus didnt like the fact on how some of my meds were regraded lower for the may sale that were held over from the feb sale. lesson learned I guess, gonna have to pruchase another set of snowshoes here pretty soon, prbably go with some redfeathers.

Yeah I wasn't pleased with the prices either but I think next year could be worse. I might just chase wolverine next year and leave the marten alone.

I use the white ones on the Kenai. I guess it mostly depends on whether you can deal with sweaty warm feet, or not. I also thought the black ones were oil resistant, and the white are not, as well as the insulation difference.

I went 20 yrs without owning bunnies. Shoe Pacs above 0, mukluks below. Got a pair of white bunnies about 5 yrs ago. 8 or so hours in bunnies and your feet are pretty damp. Warm, but damp. I don't like them. They are useful if you think you'll be in overflow, or the temps are warm enough that snow will melt on the shoes.

For Kenai, I'd get the cheaper black ones.

I agree Mike. I own some white ones but I don't like them for reasons you stated. Plus, they are slippery.
