36 degrees will be real cold with a stiff wind and one soakin' wet....under those conditions it would be cold enough to kill you! Don't be fooled by that. Hypothermia is extremely deadly....Isn't that right Mr. Jameson? Hopfully your vehicle was close by. \:\)

I can speak from experience that I was swimming and holding on in 39-41 degree water for about 4 hours and it was about as long as I physically could tolerate without losing total strength, mental alert capacity, and then ultimate consciousness ultimately resulting in death no doubt.

I cant describe the trauma that I had on that early fateful morning in the ocean bay. I do hope no one I know has to feel that as I did and live to talk about it.Those temps are certainly no childs play. Accidents happen just that quickly. I am glad you escaped without anything more then a chilling dip and a breathless moment or two. NO one can describe that total emersion over your head into water temps like that.

I have done the upside down swim in among the ice chunks too.

Nothing like Newt and you did though.

It IS impossible to explain that feeling to someone who has never gone in though. I was only wet for a little under a half hour and in the water for maybe 30 seconds. (feels like a year)

My friend Ryan went down all of the way in current and popped uo out of a hole about 50 yards downstream. Took about 15 seconds before he was out of the water.

That was you with Newt, right?

Doing a mouse job in an attic...when the home owner comes out and says to me, (as I'm climbing up the ladder) "I hope you get some...I wants to see dem lil' boogers". Making sure she got her wish , I reached the first trap,( a Katch-All) which held two dead mice....so I opened the door and dumped them out....down to the garage floor....didn't think much about it really.

A few minutes went by, as I'm checking the other traps and the lady says, "Did you get any"? To which I yell down," Sure didn't you see them? "No" she says, "Where is 'dey"?...I point down and say,"They're right there at your feet"!
You have never heard a woman scream that load in all your life!

She didn't want to see the others I had caught....... \:D

Came home last night about 6:30, walked in to find glass vases broken, flower pots over turned, pictures knocked off the coffee table, a small chair over turned, lamps knocked over,(one broken) window drapes pulled down and blood spots all over the tile flooring and a number of other places.........First thing I do, check all doors and windows...all secure! Then I go looking for whatever is in the house!

Turns out a female Fox squirrel got trapped in the chimney and came through the damper,(or where the damper should be) into the house and did about $300. worth of damage before I spotted it... then I spotted it a second time but this time with a RED DOT on the .177 ! Who said Fox squirrels don't get into houses....(be the last time that one ever does)! ;\)

Well I bought an old farm house (1890's) and there is no damper. I had it blocked off...with 6" styrofome (to prevent drafting/loosing heat). Worked pretty well 'till that squirrel chewed through it too. Gotta go....the timer bell just went off. Guess who's comin' to dinner.....Ha! \:\)

A) the squirrel, of course!

Ok , tonight I get a call from a local police dept about a frantic woman with a critter loose in her house. The dispatcher gives me the woman's name , address and phone number. I call the woman up and she tells me there is some kind of animal hanging on her 3yo daughter's window on one side of the bedroom.

I try to get some kind of a description of the animal , but she is unsure whether it is a bat or something else but she ran out of the room , closed the door and called police. So I get her information and tell her to put a towel under the door and I will get there as soon as I can.

20 minutes later I pull into her driveway , grab my gloves , net and a small cage and head to the front door with flashlight in hand. She meets me at the door looking like she had seen a ghost. I do my best to calm her and her kids down as she tells me what she saw and the last place she saw it.

As I open the door to the bedroom , she screeches in fear even thought she is downstairs and the room is upstairs. I go into the room and close the door behind me and start looking in the place they saw it last.

On the window in question there is something gray and kinda fuzzy looking right where the top and bottom windows meet. I get closer and find.....

Two Ostrich feathers stuck in the latch for the window , left by the house cleaners that were there that afternoon dusting with a feather duster.

LOL!!!

I tell the woman this and she now goes from totally freaked out to feeling like a total idiot...LOL!!!

I still got paid , and , stopped by the cop shop and got a few laughs from the guys in the dispatchers room....LOL !!

I don't know if my story will count as I was checking interior rodent stations and spraying a house. So this story involves rodents but also a little chemical application.

I was training a new technician and I told him it was time that he got to go to the door and talk with the customer also it was time for him to apply the chemical to the interior of the structure. It was about 98 degrees with typical Kansas humidity so he was more than willing to take the interior duties.

I sat in the truck preparing paper work for a couple of minutes and I heard a banging on the window. The tech was white and said "f that I aint doing it you go inside"

I asked what was going on and he just kept saying "nope that's just wrong." I grabbed the hand can and a few replacement bait blocks and went to the door. There stood Bill (changed name to protect the not so innocent) behind the door with just his head sticking out. "are you ready?" I asked.

He opened the door and in I walked. HOLY SMOLY THE DUDE WAS BUCK NAKED. I calmly told him that it was his perogative to stay unclothed however the product that I was using had been known to cause damage to sensative areas and thats why we wore gloves. He said no problem and went in to put on clothes.

It is safe to say I have never sprayed a house with more of a resolve to leave asap and I have never looked a man more squarely in the eyes.

I left the bill on the counter and made a note to schedule a different tech on the house for the next visit. We have sprayed the house several times since and he has been clothed each time.

PEOPLE ARE JUST SCARY!

On the way to do a attic inspection for mice late one afternoon, a farmer friend of mine calls me, while I'm on the other line with a new customer. Recognizing the number on the caller I.D., I let "voice mail" take his call. By the time I get to his message,I am only 3-4 miles from his house...so I just decide to show up without calling him back.

His voice mail says," Hey, this is Dale. I have a muskrat and a skunk for you, if you want them".
Now Dale is an ol' sheep farmer/friend of mine that I do coyote work for from time to time and he is always picking up "road kills" for me...so I think nothing of it. \:\/

When I get there, I find a very flattened muskrat hanging on the fence and one very agitated skunk in a Havajunk trap out by the front porch. Worst part is...( Other than it's a Havajunk)...I haven't any trap to transfere it in and his trap is packed full of mud!......Okay!??
As I walk up the sidewalk, out comes Dale with a grin on his face. I say, "You didn't say it was a LIVE skunk"...."Oh, maybe I did forget to mention that", he chuckles. \:\/

Remembering an old story my Grandpa told me as a kid, I explain that I don't have a smaller trap to transfere the skunk in and ask him if he has any burlap sacks..... He says, "Sure got lots of the old good ones". So I ask him to get me one and a long piece of bailing twine. When he shows up with them, I slip around the front of the cage and ease open the door and wedge a stick in it so it won't spring shut. Then I proceed to slip the burlap sack around the open end of the cage trap and "fluff up" the end of the sack to form a tunnel. This is of course hoping the skunk will crawl into it...and in a few minutes, it does.

By the time the skunk hits the "end" of the sack, I have it tied off and in my hand...to which Dale shouts, "YOU GOT IT"!...and just about then, I did! The skunk "went off" inside the sack and I quickly tried to decide which way the wind was blowin' ....Holding it down wind as far as I could reach, I headed for the pond, some 100 yards away.

As I get almost there, the skunk sticks his head out of a hole I hadn't noticed....which makes me pick up the pace a little quicker. By the time I reach the bank, the skunk is "outa the sack", which causes me to toss the sack, (skunk and all) into the pond...somehow, I slip and end up with one leg in there myself. Meanwhile the skunk, who is a fairly good swimmer, heads for the distant shore... "Dale," I shout...."I think I'm gonna need a .22"! \:D

Took a call about a noise in the attic.SOO went to the house climbed into the attic started my search.Smelled something funky?
Looked around and found the chimney(light metal vent for GAS )was rotted off below the roof line? Got down as quick as possible as I hit the ladder the squirrel beats me to the ground!
I calmly tell the customer it wasn't safe in the attic and they agreed even the rats were leaving!Called a furnace company to fix oh yes pulled fuse on the furnace. Nice lady gave me a tip and I was on my way.
I like to think that my inspection may have saved their lives,co poisoning!

While I was talking to her,Her dog was barking and growling at me.She bent over and grabed the dogs collar and I caught myself talking to her cleavage.I kept forgetting what I was saying to her and when I got In my truck, I realized I'd forgotten to get the set up fee from her. A lady calls to complain of a raccoon up on the roof. It seems the "yardman" has cleaning gutters and came face to face with an adult raccoon tucked away where two rooflines come together,(just several feet away from the gutter).

I show up, set up a ladder and find not one, but two raccoons, (sub adults from last year), nicely tucked back in the corner.I explain to her the options to successfully get BOTH OF THEM...but before I can finish...she screams,"LOOK, I DON'T CARE HOW YOU GET THEM, I JUST WANT THEM GONE"!
"But if I..." "GONE", SHE SCREAMS "I JUST WANT THEM GONE...BOTH OF THEM AND I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO TO DO IT, JUST GET RID OF THEM"!

Well alright then.... \:\/
I go out to my sevice vehicle and come back with a .177 air rifle, (which because of the red dot scope and mounted light looks more intimadating than it actually is)...
"Well you're not gonna hurt 'em are ya"? she says .... \:o
