The unnerving part about that, is when you get grabbed by a bear and the first thing your partner does is jump on his snowmachine and tear off!

That Ace bandage trick makes sense. Think I'll give it a try. If it works, it should cut down the time on things like wolf and wolverine.
The tent camp thing can be a real confidence enhancer. Nice to know that "home" isn't too far away. The older you get the closer the camps need to be for some reason :-)) At least that's what I've been told.

There is a yet more detailed account of "Keyo's" fight with the brown bear on the Oshetna (last Friday) in this morning's ADN.
Remember that it IS the ADN; some of what is written could be true.....
http://www.adn.com/news/alaska/wildlife/bears/attacks/story/8803434p-8704592c.html
What likely really happened is that when that bear got a taste of Lynn, and realized she had bit into a trapper, she spit him out!

Yeah, that is pretty much the way Lynn tells the story...
Except for that first paragraph maybe.

Hey Family Trapper, I use that ace bandage trick often. It really works well. You usually only have to wrap the torso with it because the legs feet and tail thaw fast enough as it is.Thats the problem on like a large wolf for example. The legs, feet, and tail thaw in a day or so.Meanwhile the body takes 3-4 days to thaw.Especially if its really cold out.Have you noticed how long it take to thaw something that was frozen at say -40F at room temperatures compaired to something that was brought in from 15F.Of course that is a extra 55F difference in temperature.Give it a try.
Also on another note.Once you skin something, and you run out of time to finish it entirely you have to refreeze until time allows.Leave it skin side out when you put it in a plastic bag and put it back out side.It will freeze much faster and thaw much faster.I've seen where a skinned, unfleshed wolf will still take two days to thaw.So i always figured it took atleast two days to freeze up when you put it back outside. So if you add that all up.Wolf gets caught in snare.Takes 3-5 days to freeze solid because of the hairs insulating value.Bring it inside to thaw.Thaws for another 3-4 days before it is thawed enough to skin.By now it is midnight. Got to get to bed so you put it back outside It takes 2 days for it to freeze up again. Finally a week later you get time to finish it.You set it back inside to thaw for 2 more days.Thats 10-13 days that the hide was in a enviroment that was somewhere between thaws and frozen.

I have a torn anterior medial meniscus, and most likely a lateral meniscus tear as well.
Remember that Paul has said we can't use language like that on his site.

We might have it on video, I'll have to check. Obviously I wasn't the one with the camera.
Anna Nicole Smith tried this on my line a couple years ago and really got whupped.
Hupurest: You're right it is easier with a trap on the back foot than the front. They like to rake those back feet on their victim's guts.

fish- Sorry about the knee. My old man tore his meniscus in a gnarly winter accident years ago (fell over cross country skiing) . Surgery wasn't all that bad and his was torn to [Please excuse my language... I'm an idiot]. He did have a new knee put in this past winter,(worn out), and that was BAD. Some people it goes smooth. Not him. A couple months of PT and he can finally walk a couple miles. He hobbled around for quite a while on the meniscus tear before finally deciding on surgery. He said he wished he'd done it right away. Hope yours isn't that bad.
Protect your wheels guys!!
