Old story - 10/18/19 08:43 PM

My older brother got me into trapping when i was a first and second grader. One day he stopped his 1984 escort on the side of a road near a bridge and told me i had to stay in the car because i left my rubber boots at the house and had my school shoes on. I had and have very little patience so as he was checking his line in that area I was messing around on the bridge kicking stones and what not. In Rural Nebraska in the 80's there were quite a few bridges that had no guardrails at all. I noticed in the water/Mud a big frog. I just sat there leaning over the bridge watching it. I even started to toss stones at it to get it to move. Boredom had reached all new levels. It started to jump towards and under the bridge. I kept watching it leaning more and more over the edge. Then of course splash Lol. I fell over the edge of the bridge. The mud was deep for a first or second grader and it was hard for me to get out but i did. I was sitting on the back of the car when he got back. Absolutely covered in muck from head to toe. Rotten smelling to good lord. I got a free ride home in the back hatch of the car with a couple muskrats and a beaver. Now way was he letting me sit up front.

I never missed a trap check with him but i also never left my boots behind again lol. Checked traps with him everyday for two years or so before he left for the marines and it is amazing how many memories there are in that time. Maybe i will tell another one or two later.

Great story. You can make a diary from it and write stories about your trapping experiences

I think spending time with family is what makes some of the best stories.
