Peppers........Jalapeno Poppers - 07/20/08 06:58 PM

For those of you who make your own jalapeno poppers.....what do you use for the breading/batter.

I made some and dipped them into an egg wash and then in bread crumbs. I put them in the freezer on a lined cookie sheet but when I went to get them out, most of the breading flaked off. I would like to make them in a way that I can get them breaded and frozen so if I want to eat a few for supper then I can just grab some and throw them into the fryer.

Any Suggestions??

Do the same thing you've described, but toss them in the deep fryer breifly, before freezing. Then, freeze.

I love those things.Never tried breading um yet.I usually just half banana peppers, fill with cheese and broil in the oven till the cheese turns a lil brown.Love um!

I do buy poppers at the local deli, love the cream cheese ones.

I'm interested in this breading also.

What CJ said will do just fine. I eat japeleno peppers daily in some form or fashion.....

Heres what I do most of the time....I think they are way better than the poppers....

DROOL, SLOBBER!!!!

Do you roast and peel the jalepenos first or just split and seed?

wash em up cut them lenght ways seed them....for a totally un hot pepper cut all the membrane out, the membrane is where the heats at so depending on how much heat you want trim accordingly.

Fill them with cream cheese, slap a lil smokie in them and wrap them with bacon. cook in oven at 275 degrees till bacon is done enough to eat.

TIP....fry the bacon just a bit before wrapping the pepper to achieve a crisper texture

put the cream cheese in a ziplock bag and put in microwave for a few seconds. when out of microwave cut one corner off the bag and it makes it real easy to squeeze it out. kinda like one of them cake decorating do dads.

They are extremely good cooked on a smoker too if you happen to have one going throw some of these on.

Thanks Derek, for the info. Maybe I can use some kinda moderator power to push this into the recipe portion of this forum. Maybe a few others will chime in with their own recipe.
