this is wild black cherry

theres 2 kinds of bark on cherry trees....rossed and natural

rossed is the inner bark and brings more money and natural is just peeling the bark

most folks use a drawknife to peel bark, but have an old sickle blade I use.

just peel and dry.......store in paper bags

I use cherry bark myself for coughs

Wild cherry is used for colds, whooping cough, bronchitis and other lung problems; diarrhea; gout; digestive disorders; pain; and cancer. It is also used in cough syrups because of its sedative, expectorant, drying, and cough-suppressing effects.

In foods and beverages, wild cherry is used as a flavoring agent.

Jeremy, I take a handful of peeled bark and put in about 2 cups f water and boil it to make a tea.

after it reaches boiling, i turn the heat off and let it set in the hot water for 30 minutes.

then strain it, and add honey. i'll do 3 of these per day if i have a cold/cough.
