Planting ginseng in the spring - 02/06/13 09:02 PM

I have been told and read that 'seng is best planted in the fall. What are the oppinions of those of you that plant alot of it about spring planting?

I planted 1/2 a pound in the spring a few years ago but turkeys seemed to get most of it before it had a chance. The seed that came up seems ok.

Should I wait till September or try to find some seed to plant this spring?

I never planted any in the spring, but was always told to plant it in the fall. That is what I did and never had any trouble other than a few seeds being ate by mice. It might be hard to find seeds to plant in the spring.

I bought some one time in the spring from paul hsus, and the dang stuff had already sprouted and had tails on it. I should have sent it back, but I didn't like a dummy.

Fall is best, but having said that I have planted in the winter also. A couple of warm days when the ground is not froze is just fine. I actually have about 3 lbs. of seed right now in my fridge. Every week I add a wet towel to keep them moist and to check to make sure there not sprouting. Hopefully I can get these in the ground in the next week or 2.

If anyone needs some seed shoot me a pm.
