Ginseng Prices - 08/27/12 01:33 AM

What is the going price for wild....woods grown/cultivated this year? With such a short, dry season this year, what do you think the increase in value will be next year?

Re: Ginseng Prices - 08/30/12 02:05 AM

well what do we do to get a quote someone has to know and it better be good cause its hard to find most is down and the green weight is going to be low on acount of the drought moisture level in the root is going to be lower than other years. Usually the ratio green to dry is 3.33 pound to 1 dry this year it will be 3 or under to 1 Don send me a pm with your price if im standin on your door sunday morning.

I don't give a price that will work untill I know a price i can sell at. I will give ballpark figures that will and can change in the blink of an eye. Usually I am solid as a rock with prices and can promise prices for so long, but at this time, I won't stick my head out in fear of getting it cut off.

How has the states and the federal government stopped buyers from getting prices from the Chinese? Do you know something I don't know? My state issued a buyers license to me and the feds never give out export permits untill close to october. I have not heard anything about the government making the trade on seng hard to do. As long as your state is in the Ginseng program, everything should be ok.
This thing is controlled by the USFW.

Re: Ginseng Prices - 08/31/12 01:32 AM

In Don's defense, my buyer is reluctant to give a price either yet, and they're one of the largest purchasers in the mid west.

Many buyers ares still sitting on 2-3 years worth of regular root, and younger Koreans and Chinese are no longer using 'seng much, plus they have been buying up good green root to re plant as fast as they can get it for several years now. Won't be long and they won't need our root to fill their needs.

Re: Ginseng Prices - 08/31/12 04:47 AM

pcr2, I think your state had to change it's laws to be able to stay in the ginseng program. All the seng laws pretty much have got to meet usfw standards or your state won't be allowed to export seng out of the country.
As far as myself buying seng from out of state is concerned. All seng that I buy from out of state must be certified to leave the state of origin. I never really thought there would be a chance in heck of me being able to buy root from p.a. I don't have a fancy seng typ market but I do have a nice commercial seng market. I could pay 475 if I want to, but at this time, I don't want to.
I really did not try to aggrivate anybody, just telling it like I know it as of this afternoon. I did manage to get a quote from a Chinese buyer today. That quote won't be good for long. The market is going to get nuts real fast and just like Dave said, his buyer is very reluctant to quote any price. I know Daves buyer I think and if it is who I think it is, he is probably the largest buyer in the U.S,
If that man don't want to quote prices, something is wrong somewhere.
Oh yeah, I only been buying seng since about 1969, so I do have a little bit of an idea about what is g oing on.

Re: Ginseng Prices - 08/31/12 11:47 PM

I will start at 425.00 I think. Don't make any difference what the price is, people won't sell for that unless they need the money. I have no control over what price I get quoted and I must make money buying the root. I don't think that people will get 10 percent of nornmal dig in my area and a large area around me.

Re: Ginseng Prices - 09/01/12 05:12 AM

I did finally get a quote today from Wiebkes at $130-$150 wet, but no quote on dry.

They aren't running a route in IA this year, and stated that the Ginseng market is VERY un certain at the moment. Some would say that's just a buyers way of buying cheap, but I know without a doubt that isn't their way of buying.

Re: Ginseng Prices - 09/13/12 01:59 AM

Its definitely going to be a SHORT dig here. Most of what I found today had been down for some time. I'd say there is about 10% of what a normal year is here.

Re: Ginseng Prices - 09/13/12 05:04 AM

10% or less here.
