When is the best time to dig sassafras root, Spring or Fall? I read somewhere it can be dug in the Spring before leaves appear. Is this correct?

it depends on how strong a flavor you want, to get the strongest flavor, you can dig it in the winter if the ground aint froze to hard.
i dig it from early spring to early fall.
