wild herbs and roots pictorial #4.. cinquefoil - 06/13/11 10:52 PM

#4 on the list is cinquefoil

cinquefoil is found in pastures, wastelands..and is sometimes a pest in feilds.

it grows to about 16-20 inches high and has pretty yellow flowers on it.

the most recognizable feature are the leaves......the appear to look like marijuana. but it is not a narcotic.

only the tops are harvested.

do not pull the plant up by the roots. harvest the plant using a knife or hedge clippers and you'll have the plant to come back to every year.

cinquefoil is used for a ton of things..........in ancient times it was belived to have kept witches away.......

it's used as an herbal gargle for oral sores, a disinfectant, diarrhea, and digestive problems.

dry this in the shade or in a well aired building. direct sun will ruin it......buyers want the nice green color.

i have a large amount so i dry mine on tarps in the shade............i cover them up before i go to bed and my wife will uncover in the morning when the dew is gone .

if there is a chance of heavy rain....bring it inside of some sort of building or cover very tight...any moisture and your product may mold.

note the marijuana looking leaf

a few hours of picking
