Most of the Petro base materials we have used are the same in my experience. It isn't as difficult to work with as Lanolin as it has to be cut and worked with to achieve the correct consistency in a final product. Petro is much more user friendly with a nice result. Some super lube synthetic grease works nicely as well for some base and lure smear products. It is neutral in odor and color as well.

Have you got a particular brand or weight in mind that would resemble the consistency of Petro or Lanolin?

broken whiskers from years turn to anaosmic symptoms from synthetic teflon odors , petroleum , Junk , Super Lube Is Odor ! , Anosmia Symptoms. The obvious sign of anosmia is a loss of smell. Some people with anosmia notice a change in the way things smell ,while hyposmia means reduced smell sensitivity. The olfactory neurons are able to recover or regenerate after injury. Smell sensitivity decreases with advancing age , LOL , just ask someone else to smell it and then the next person , the young have Great sense of smell especially if they were Naturally Nursed by there Mothers , as humans age they lose the sense of sensory perception and anaosmic symptoms begin to overtake there Once Young perception ,,, And Someone Has Lost there Sense Of Smell ! grin

Works well with fox an yote glands. Seems to stay stable. The smell doesn't fade like Vaseline.
