Wolfwoman, I have admired your work for a couple of years and surely do need some good mittens for the sled. What animal both wears well and looks too fancy to pass up? Ma and I could both use a pair this next spring when we get things back, just need to know who to trap for.

Thanks,
Luke

Beaver and otter are both great for mittens smile Anything better than those two and I go to jail for using them wink They can always be trimmed in fox for looks!!

A pair of beaver mitts would be awesome, especially when driving the sled in to snare some beaver, maybe they'd see the mitts and just surrender! grin

Does one large beaver make a pair of mittens?

Re: Got tanned fur? - 11/07/11 06:15 PM

Yes it should as long as there aren't any large rubs/missing/bad fur on it smile

How many beaver would it take to make a good trapper hat

All fur can take two, a regular one with leather takes one.

Wow! Your stuff looks pretty cool. Thats what I hope I can be doing someday for a hobby... How many skunks would you need to make a hat? I love the hat at the top.

Hello,
Couple of questions for you.

On the gauntlet mittens - What is the insulation and/or lining inside? What type of leather is on the palms/thumb area?

For the hats - What is the difference between a bomber and a trapper hat? What insulation and/or lining is in these? What type of leather is on the outside of the hats?

Thanks Much - Bridog

I use elk or moosehide for the palms, and I can put any type of inside lining that you'd like. Generally I use fleece. But have also used a quilted lining and wool from army blankets.

Fleece inside the hats, unless otherwise requested. Deerhide for the outer shell.

If you go to my hats page on www.alaskaspiritcrafts.com you can see where I have trapper hats and bomber hats. Most Alaskans prefer trapper hats smile

Anything else? I'm happy to answer!! smile
