Best mouse trap

Have an old gal that has a mouse problem and can not find anyone to get rid of them. Who makes the best mouse trap? I have a couple of the old wooden Victor trap. They have been the standard for years. Is there anything better on the market now days.
Can't use poison. Thank you in advance.

Take a look at the Kness Snap-E mouse trap... family farm & home sell them. I have 3 dozen of them...work great!

My go to as well and everyone I have recommended them to thanked me.

I just use the wood bottom Victor's. I buy them in boxes of 72 and set at least 30 per job. They're 50c each. Hard to beat the price.

In winter it is! It'll be a big part of what we do from now until late March/early April, when carpenter ants start making an appearance.

Bucket traps are the way to go. I have a couple variations.

A normal mouse trap stops working for you the second one plugs it up.

What is your approach for bidding mouse jobs? per mouse, or time involved? thanks in advance

Always seems there are trade offs. I put some bucket traps out last year which worked fine, but there was maintenance. The peanut butter I put on the sides got moldy pretty fast and the water got nasty fairly quickly too with flies etc. and needed to be changed. I guess I thought you just set the bucket and that was it. Though it did work for a while as it, it did require maintenance.

I think this largely depends upon the expected results that you and the customer discuss.
Are you offering only trapping/baiting services, or attempting to complete sealing work to stop mice from entering a structure?
If only trapping/baiting, then I think you’d want to pre-assess the severity of activity so you can estimate how many traps or baiting stations to set, and how often you think they need to be checked. This gives you a basis to estimate your costs, desired profit margins, etc.
You can make better profits with sealing/exclusion work, but you’ll need to be very thoughtful in how your present it to the customer. There will be an inspection, the time/resources to do the work, and perhaps a warranty. All this represents a commitment of your time and expertise, which you should be we compensated for.
I know I’m not giving any specific numbers on what to charge, but what I’m trying to get across is that you need to raise a good number of questions with your customer, and spend time putting together a plan in order to arrive at a proposed cost.

Yes, water and bait should be freshened up weekly.

It's not something that I'd recommend for most trap placements due to obvious issues. However using antifreeze instead of water will make it a no maintenance trap. Antifreeze does not evaporate like water and it doesn't smell unless disturbed. Long after the peanut butter is gone, antifreeze will still attract and catch mice. Major downside is poisoning risks and disposal issues.

I use windshield washer fluid in my buckets

Had a problem with mice in my garage. Picked a 4 pack of old style mouse traps and baited them with cheese. The next morning the cheese was gone, but no mice. Rebated with peanut butter and again, traps were empty and peanut butter was gone.

I looked up Victor on line and read that chocolate was the best bait for mice. Told this to my daughter and her eyes lit up saying “we have chocolate chips in the trail mix”. She carefully melted a couple chips per trap and applied them hot to the trigger pushing the melted chocolate under the rolled part. I set them back out and checked before going to bed. I had a mouse in all four traps. The chocolate had barely a tooth mark. Caught the other four by morning.

The chocolate is many years old and still catching the random mouse now and then in these traps! My sister bought a metal cat and I told her to bait it with chocolate chips. Need to check back and see how she’s doing.

I use mouse traps mostly for voles, so setting the traps in the dirt outside, and any amount of dirt in the self setting mechanism of the snap-e will prevent the traps from firing, so I stay with the yellow plastic pan Victor mouse traps. I do use the snap e rat traps indoors, and rarely have any problem with them.
