Sanitizing outdoor raccoon latrine

Hi all. What's the best or easiest way to sanitize (post clean up) a coon latrine in river rock? It's under a walk-under deck and about 4'x25'. I don't do clean-outs but this is a regular customer of mine. The rock is up against the house, which is stone.

Boiling water and flame are the only options I've read about.

How is this type of set up normally done?

Pooper scooper for the big chunks, then hard spray with hose to knock down the remains, followed by a good spray of 50/50 bleach water.

Cavicide is a good one.

Need something that will kill the eggs. My customer has grandkids who might get in area once it's cleaned up.

Fog or steam clean the area.

Steam cleaning is the way to go, as far as I know. Chemicals are iffy. Heat is very effective.

That makes sense. What type of steam cleaner would work best?

On the few jobs that I've done I used a McCulloch machine. It was under $100 per day at a rental place. I don't remember the model designation but I think as long as you're blowing steam you'll get the job done.

I have similar issues around the home. A few questions:

- Would you sanitize areas that are dirt?

- How long would these eggs be considered dangerous outside?

Remove the dirt if at all possible.

I have read that flaming the eggs is the only way to kill the eggs, I have never heard of steaming, but it sounds like the best way to attempt to kill them inside a structure, as no sprays or chemicals will kill them. I have flamed my raccoon traps that have had raccoon feces in them. Removing the dirt as PWC said is a good attempt to remove the contaminated soil.

Any idea how long they can remain viable?

(Best article said eggs are killed at 145 degrees, chemicals don't do much to kill them, and that they can live for years under ideal conditions).

But under normal conditons outside, they can't live forever. Any ideas how long one would have to worry about them?
