Red Squirrels - 12/18/16 05:09 AM
What's the best way to trap a red squirrel? My thought is raisins.
I had a guy that had some trouble this year w/ 2 fox squirrels chewing on his deck. I guess I was wrong, b/c I always thought it was just red squirrels that were nuisance chewers.
All squirrels can chew. They're rodents. I like victor rats for reds. I like the copper trigger and wrap a kernel of uncracked corn in it. Black sunflower seeds will work too.

That would catch the gray squirrels though. We dont seem to have issues w/ them.
Its very rare that a rat snap holds a gray. Put the snaps on the conifers, where the reds find food, or beside the hole they chewed.

I use a weasel box baited with salted peanuts and a snap rat trap. Gets them every time

Will a 1 3/8" hole in a weasel box work for red squirrels? I ask because that is the hole size on our weasel boxes for 4 day checks.
I do the same as Trapperjeff but I put use a shelf bracket and a board and screw to the nearest pine tree. I use the rat trap with the yellow pan and put some bait paste on the pan and add black sunflower seeds.
