liability insurance - 12/07/16 10:17 PM

I would like to do a few ADC jobs on the side, one client asked about insurance, which I don't have, so they turned me down.
Where would be a good place to get liability insurance for trapping?

Jim Pace (Christian Baker Co.) is state-of-the-art. Also West Bend Ins. Co.

Bob & Sons Ins. 260-726-3718. Have to be a member if NWCOA to get from Jim Pace. Bob treats us well.

Re: liability insurance - 12/09/16 10:07 PM

Snow and Bell, like Jim said, Jim Pace wants you to be a nwcoa member to get insurance through him, so 250.00 per year plus another 600.00 to 650.00, just to get insured when you can save that and go with Snow and Bell.

Wow. So because it happened to someone else, your insurance premiums increased 475%? That doesn't seem right (fair) at all!

Re: liability insurance - 03/07/17 09:07 PM

It would be foolish to even think about operating a business without any liability insurance. It's a good way to have someone else living in your house

Re: liability insurance - 03/07/17 09:38 PM

Does that Bob and Sons offer workers compensation as well.

Re: liability insurance - 03/07/17 10:49 PM

Sorry to say Scott but with the messed up world we live in I think
It's the opposite, the person who is working at someone's house that doesn't
Have insurance and gets hurt will sue the owner of the house for whatever
There lawyer can sue for! So make sure to have homeowners insurance lol
Crazy sue happy world we are living in!

Bob and Sons sells Liberty Mutual workmans comp.(at least in my states IN and IL) Same as Jim Pace if that is who you are using now. When I switched the policy stayed the same, just signed something to switch the agency.

Any websites or email address for these folks?

Re: liability insurance - 03/08/17 04:11 PM

The only two insurance companies that have been actively pursuing our business that I have ever seen has been Christian/Baker with Jim Pace and West Bend Mutual Insurance with Bob & Sons. With Christian/Baker you will need to belong to NWCOA. With West Bend Mutual you can also get Workman's Comp. On the bright side, a very small percentage of your insurance premiums to West Bend Mutual is used to pay me for trapping animals on their property. I was up there yesterday for skunks. Either one of these companies has an excellent reputation and you can't go wrong with either. We are very fortunate.

I just found out that Bob and Sons is soon to be licensed in Minnesota. I was very pleased with my quote. Just waiting for him to receive his license to receive the policy. Just an FYI for anyone else in MN looking to be insured.

I contacted them on Facebook yesterday, they do not provide coverage for Washington State. Anyone have any good alternatives? Thanks!

Re: liability insurance - 03/29/17 11:46 AM

I would look for an independent agent selling West Bend Mutual.
My policy is through The Friedman Group in Dubuque, Iowa.

Any options for wildlife insurance in VA? Bob and sons and west bend don't service VA

Re: liability insurance - 03/31/17 12:51 AM

Bob and Sons don't service Fla. or Ala. Are any were in the South. Had to go back with old ins and high cost for it.

Re: liability insurance - 04/29/17 03:26 AM

Snow and Bell, great prices, lower than Christian Baker and you don't have to be a member of NWCOA to get insured, great coverege plus you can add on.

Re: liability insurance - 05/26/17 03:10 PM

I have Cincinnati insurance for Liability. it's about $500 a year. Covers my teaching, site auditing and trapping. The agent wasn't thrilled to cover trapping but his company wrote the policy anyway. I also have an LLC, written in such a way to keep me bulletproof. Went to a lawyer who specialized in LLC development. I don't feel naked anymore.

Re: liability insurance - 05/29/17 04:38 AM

I only found one that would get me a plan. It was Christian baker. Yes you have to be a member of nwcoa but is that really such a bad thing? Lol

Re: liability insurance - 05/30/17 05:01 PM

What does Bob and Sons, Snow and Bell, Christian Baker , etc. offer in their policies that wouldn't be covered by a general liability policy? I have searched for months to find a company that has a specific plan for wildlife control here in PA without much luck. After talking with my insurance agent (home and auto) and explaining the possible claims he told me it would all be covered with a general liability policy. I got a 1 mil policy with 250 deductible for $620 yr.

Re: liability insurance - 05/30/17 07:30 PM

It is wrote specifically for wildlife removal and exclusion work. My insurance company wouldn't even offer a policy too me

Re: liability insurance - 05/30/17 09:34 PM

Fatdawg, it's a professional liability policy tailored specifically to the work of Commercial Wildlife Control. I don't think my general home and auto policy would cover that type of claim. If your agent says it does, I would want him to give that to me in writing.
Cheers,

Cheers,

The policy has nothing to do with my homeowners or auto insurance. It is a separate business liability policy.
Just out of curiosity what specifics is your policy tailored to that would not be covered by general business liability?

I'm still somewhat new to this, just trying to learn and understand what I maybe missing.

Re: liability insurance - 05/31/17 06:27 PM

Sorry, I must have read your post wrong.
If it is a business liability insurance for your ADC business than that is exactly what you should have.
I had to fill out an application that asked specifics about wildlife control work, if you handle pesticides, how much you store, how many people you employ, what's their training, etc.

Sounds like you've got it covered.

I gave my agent a down an dirty summary of the work I'd be doing and some of the possible claims, such as falling through ceiling, ladder through a window and the you hurt my poor puppy scenario. He says I'll be covered.
I don't do bugs or chemicals, so that probably make it easier and cheaper.

I looked at joining NWCOA and looked at their insurance. Combined ins cost and membership is more than I pay now and the coverage isn't as high. Also read that you have to provide proof of liability ins when applying for their ins.

Does anyone know if Bob and Sons covers Louisiana and also Pest control?
Any one know any that do?
Not a member of NWCOA.

Thanks. That's what I was afraid of.
I will be needing wildlife and pest control insurance in Louisiana very soon.

May not hurt to check with Bob and sons anyways as they got licensed in MN just to cover me. I was told they were looking to add additional states. So far, I'm very pleased with them.

After reading all of these posts, I never knew how lucky I truly was until now. I have family who are licensed agents in my state...I didn't have to join anything, or go with a specific person-they surveyed all of the different brokers for me...and found me really good coverage at a fair price. I'm wondering, how much coverage does the NWCOA policy offer?

I don't know, but I'm not paying $200 to the NWCOA to find out.

You do not have to be a nwcoa member for Jim pace.

Re: liability insurance - 11/18/17 04:40 AM

I think NCWOA membership numbers would fly off of the charts if it wasn't so expensive. I belong to other organizations-in other areas..memberships are perhaps $35-$50 per year.

I can buy a couple of very nice traps with that $200!

Re: liability insurance - 11/18/17 04:56 PM

You can be a supporting member for $50.00, next level up is $125.00 with professional membership coming in at $250.00.

To each their own on what they want to
pay to various organizations they may want
to affiliate with or support.

To purchase the highest level of insurance from Pace, you must have the highest
level of membership with NWCOA.

Lots of people are very happy with Pace, lots with Bob and Sons, and plenty have independent
insurers.

To each their own, whatever works for you and your business.

Re: liability insurance - 11/20/17 08:10 AM

For pest control in general, is a plain old liability policy sufficient or do you have to get something specifically for pest control?
Posted By: HD_Wildlife

Re: liability insurance - 11/20/17 06:28 PM

I believe there is an additional applicator fee with Pace. But not 100%.
