I came across a scat pile today. The animal had backed up to the edge of a basement wall from above and let go. It wasn't short pieces like a rodent, but long like a string. The width was like that of a little brown bat, 1/8 or 3/16" or so. I'm thinking a predator of some sort, but really have no clue.

What about weasel?
If very small one of the smaller species.
Maybe weasel. He's not going to be happy to hear that, LOL!

I have seen vole chipmunk toilet stations at the corners of sill plates inside that have easy access to the top of the foundations due to poor siding attachment at near ground level areas. They pile up feces somewhat like you described.
