Got a call from a grain elevator on the Mississippi River. Not going to say which or where but within my area. They have a hawk of some kind that has made a nest next to the transfer belt on a platform on the grain elevator and it is preventing the workers from accessing parts of the grain elevator that they need to go to so that everything will be ready to put the elevator in service in just a few days. The hawk is being extremely protective of the nest because there are young birds in it. I was asked to come and "take care" of them so that their plans to crank up the unit can move forward. My response was that I can not get a permit from USFWS to remove this bird while there are young in the nest. I told them they should try to build a temperairy access to avoid the hawk until the young are fledged. Just thinking about this sucks because there is a good chance this bird will be taken care of "off the books" by someone else and I could have made this a $450 job had there not been chicks involved.

It would have been all good until you had to sleep that night. Sticking by what you know to be right is the only way to do it. Good on ya!

I had to turn one down for same reasons a few years back for that home makeover show for ty pennington....they were going to be blowing a barn up and swallows had nests in there with baby chicks...they wanted me to remove the nests and birds and move them...i told them i cant because of the laws....next day i watched em blow that barn up and i dont know who got em out or if they even did
