Facebook - 01/05/16 05:04 PM

My son P.J. is a big Facebook fan as I'm sure some of you already know. He told me that some of the guys want to know when I'm

finally going to get a Facebook account. They also stated that the lack of privacy on Trapperman ADC has driven a large number of

people to places like Facebook. I guess I really can't deny that this is true. We no longer have participation from a large number

of people on T-man ADC, including all the gals. I can no longer get an answer to a simple question. I probably wouldn't quit T-man

altogether; just check in every so often like a lot of you do. Any discussion?

I will answer any question you have Paul if I can be helpful. I am not on Facebook or other social media outlets as such. Don't have time or the interest to do it.

Re: Facebook - 01/05/16 08:27 PM

I hear you Bob. This will be a new experience for me. The Mrs. says I already spend too much time on the computer. ( At least she

knows where I am and doesn't have to call the local bars ) You and Ron have been terrific and Paul sure knew what he was doing when

he grabbed you two. For any of you guys that are interested, my Facebook name is the same as on here, Paul Winkelmann. I've only

been on Facebook for two hours and I've already befriended a barrel full of guys that I haven't heard from in a long time. And I may

actually learn how to post pictures. My son posted a rousing introduction for me and never mentioned the words "senile" or

"Alzheimer's" even once. He did however mention that neither he nor the company is responsible for any stupidity that I might post.

( Apparently he doesn't read my incredibly brilliant posts on here so let's just keep that our little secret )

I'm not on it, but the wife is. A facebook page would only be one more thing I have to take care of.

Re: Facebook - 01/06/16 02:26 AM

You can have fun on Facebook, I know my wife does. There is a group called Wildlife Control Business Builders you might want to check out.

I am not sure I get the reason about lack of privacy. Not picking on you, I have heard you say it before, but all that info we might be paranoid about sharing can be found out by smart competitors. Take pricing for example: can't their wife call and pretend she needs raccoons removed?

You may be speaking about times long before me when you talk about high participation but for me, most of the time, this is more entertainment, occasionally there is something useful, its all interesting. If I was more disciplined I would spend less time here.

Re: Facebook - 01/06/16 04:29 AM

Bob, what people are referring to is the entire world ( Antis ) can read and make notes on this site. That's why Paul put up rules. No advertising; ( That's a biggie for my son. He advertises constantly ) No politics, No profanity, No non-target catches. These are good rules but on Facebook you can post a picture of a non-target catch and ask two or three guys what you need to do to stop it and nobody else is the wiser. I'm already in the WC Business Builders but thanks for posting it. It's not going to be too hard to stay active on both sites I guess.

Logout of tman. Do a google search for Paul Winkelman ballerina. It was a fun experiment we did awhile back...

Re: Facebook - 01/06/16 03:11 PM

It has always been good common sense and good judgement to sensor your comments and photos on any public forum. That is just the world that we live in today. Even on Facebook all is not what it seems.

Never fall into the false security that what you say or post is not seen by others that you wish not to see or hear what you have posted.

It is just best to reserve such things to pm dialog that you may feel that could be used in a negative way. Even that type of communication can be accessed by those in the know I have found.

Dave, they're all at their winter retreats in Costa Rica, Barcelona, and Bora Bora.

Re: Facebook - 01/06/16 09:30 PM

At one time, that would be a good guess. However, they get Facebook in the winter retreats....and you can barely drive down the street without seeing someone with their nose in an I phone.

Paul,
The only real private site on facebook is your page where you can control who can see what you write on your page by setting your privacy controls.
I would not consider the group sites private even if they are a closed group. There is nothing stopping someone from making a fake facebook page then applying to enter the group, most admins of these groups are members who volunteer and just check to see if you have a page and not a ton of dislikes.
I would consider groups as an open forum as this one is. Never trust any social sites as private.

I have read that all text messages are logged for 2 years. Not sure if this is rite. If it is so much for privacy.

Re: Facebook - 01/06/16 11:23 PM

Kurt, I don't know how private these places are and I really don't care. I don't print very much stuff that I wouldn't be able to share with the world. I just used that as one of the reasons that guys are on Facebook instead of on here. I was truly amazed at how many people that used to be on here are on the wildlife business site on Facebook. My son opened a Facebook account for me because a few of the guys that knew me wanted him to. One of the things I really like is if I ask who is going to Las Vegas, I will probably get 10 answers in 30 minutes instead of one answer in three days. And you know how much I enjoy humor; I have been pleasantly surprised that good clean humor is still alive and well on the Facebook places I've been on.

It was Apple that logs Siri for 2 years. So anything doing with Siri is logged

Re: Facebook - 01/07/16 01:27 AM

The privacy with a closed group is that you are educating 500 people in the trade.........not 10 billion.

Re: Facebook - 01/07/16 01:30 AM

I really noticed how many have left the site when I go back 3 yrs in the archive. People get burned out on a site and move on. It happens, get busy with life.
I will look at that facebook site you mentioned can always use more information.

How do you join a closed group on facebook?

Re: Facebook - 01/11/16 03:43 PM

I'm not sure how it works if you don't know anyone in a closed group. I found so many people I haven't chatted with in years and they put me in the closed groups. I think that every group wants to have as many members as possible.

Re: Facebook - 01/11/16 06:04 PM

Paul - I hit the join button and it comes back as pending. I guess I wait and see what happens. I started the business over here.

So mine was pending, then that went away. Is that how you know your not allowed to join or do they tell you?

Re: Facebook - 01/12/16 12:24 AM

I didn't know what to expect, so all the politics, hookers, and religion surprised me. I'm the last one in the family with an account so I have to watch what I say. Even my 2 month old granddaughter had a great picture posted yesterday. I am amazed at all the stuff that I learned in just a few days, but then this was always a continuing education business.
