Pricing on Website?

Just wondered what everyone's opinion was on putting your pricing on your website. I haven't done it yet but am thinking about doing it.

If you are competing on price...it might make a difference.

Bob, I don't know about Indiana or your competition but this is what would happen here: If we charged $99 for a service call, the

competition would charge $98.95. That's not the worst part; they would also get all the work. Ve Germans von't vaste a nickel!

It could go either way, I think some folks long to see an up front price for "basic" services, however with so
many things we all do being varied widely by the issue, species, distance to site, and so many more I think most folks would maybe only list a basic site visit fee.

With exclusion I think it would be hard to do compared to single animal removal or something along those lines.

The competition scoping your price and dropping theirs is of course a possibility but they can call you or have someone call you to get an idea on that if they so desire.

I feel I need to talk to folks to understand their issue and deliver the pricing at the right time, however I know many do ask, "what is your basic fee just to come out" and maybe listing it on the site would reduce calls that are not going anywhere due to the prospective clients view of their issue in monetary terms.

We all know folks are weighing out their perception of the problem against their household budget or need in most cases.

It's an interesting topic just even on the theory end, like many sales interface questions.

I want folks to find my website but I want the discussion of cost to be over the phone or email or in person as needed. Though I would love a tire kicker filter! Lol!

I don't compete on price. I think you would miss a lot of calls. Some of the missed calls you may be able to sell even if you are "higher" price.

Ditto the above three. We don't advertise prices; only give 'em over phone. Too may variables to give any prices without an interview.
Many of our sales come because the customer says I sound professional or I knew what I was talking about.

Why not 4? I didn't say it would make a positive difference....

I think that there are too many variables in our pricing and services that can only be established by contact and interaction with the perspective customer initially.

I also agree with Paul with the price search and comparisons will begin.

There are plenty of tire kickers now out there to deal with. I believe with prices posted you may have many cases where you won't even get a chance to speak with a customer.

Your experience/knowledge and sales abilities can be shared and impressed upon the customer via your conversation.

Maybe price posting could be possible as far as starting points are concerned in some areas of service. However, so many things such as distance of the job and site conditions are things that cannot be factored into a pre priced scenario.

I guess I don't mind the competition knowing my prices. If they wanted to find out I would be happy to tell them. This one might be benign.

I don't like working for price shoppers even when I get the job. This one doesn't bother me.

I would miss out on talking to customers and I agree with Dave, sometimes your professionalism over the phone sells jobs.

Not hearing any positives. I had a couple of people ask for a price list of services this year. Just thought it might be helpful for the customer and remove some ambiguity. (One of the people who asked did it right after I did an onsite inspection and gave her a free written estimate like she thought I was gaming her or something) Not saying everyone is that untrusting but if it makes people feel more comfortable I would be happy to do it.

Actually Bob, a nice price list for larger customers with the approximate prices of all the different things we do, doesn't sound

like that bad of an idea. It could even give the smaller homeowners something to think about. My daughter's mother-in-law was happy

to know that we can insulate her basement walls. Something to think about with the New Year a couple months out.

Pricing a job via the internet or phone is a fool's errand.

Inspections given to establish a price often turn up other jobs. Mouse leads turn up bat and mole jobs, etc. even insect spraying jobs... Carpenter ants, wasps...

This is for Art Lee. I'm not sure what you meant about phone pricing. When someone calls for a raccoon or squirrel removal ( our two

largest wildlife calls ) the price we quote for their area is always the same. Maintaining your price can sometimes bite you a

little; charging two neighbors different prices will bite you seriously!

And then again one neighbor may have a pretty simple job on the ground and the next require a safety harness with twice the population.

Adam, I was kind of hoping for a comparison like that. Since we charge per animal, if you have ten and your neighbor has twenty, it's

still fair. We need a forty foot ladder so seldom that we give those jobs to our biggest competitor. ( Who is also my son's best

friend ) Now bear in mind that I only mentioned animal work; not bats, or insulating, or trenching, or anything that. But often times

it's the animal job that leads to the other add-ons and you can quote those on site.
