Got Lyme disease... - 10/14/15 06:46 PM

Had a low grade fever and aches and pains thought I was getting a cold or the flu, after about 6 days getting out of bed was tough. Made a rare appointment (for me) with the doctor. Turns out I have Lyme... On a month worth of Doxycyloline, and good news is feel better fever is gone etc, but now sunlight is painful.... Seems some of us fare skinned people react badly to sunlight while taking Doxy... Dressing like a leper to get work done after getting sunburn on my hand and left side of my face driving around in my truck on a mostly cloudy day... Going to be an interesting month, guess I will be a vampire for Halloween this year...

So I feel like I'm talking to an expert; how do you get Lyme disease? Glad you're feeling better. Doxycyloline sounds like something

I would read on a rodent label. Sounds like the only good part of this is the money saved on a costume.

Becoming a host for an infected deer tick.

Sorry to hear that RF! You are both fortunate and unfortunate. Fortunate you live where doctors and the medical community can actually diagnose that properly, and unfortunate to live where lyme is such an issue.

I know colleagues who went months and some even longer without a diagnosis and most docs I've met from other parts of the country suggest there are very few labs who
can give an accurate lyme test other than seeing the "bullseye" mark.

Many likely suffer from Lyme that can't get a proper diagnosis and it mimics many autoimmune conditions which makes it even tougher.

Wish you a speedy recovery! Have known quite a few who contracted it.

He had a lot to lost. Still having some problem with some of the med's. Hope you get back on track shortly.

Yeah Justin,

I live 5 miles from Lyme. Doctors around here have been dealing with it the longest:)

And Lyme Ct. is across the water from Plum Island. A government diesese testing and research place. Makes you wonder.

The agents inside plum island make Lyme look like the common cold.

Place has more bio security than anything most can imagine.

Nothing to take lightly. I have had it for six years and am considered chronic as they have not been able to cure me. Won't go I to the details. But take it serious. It has effected my life in a major way. Every morning starts with Norco for the pain from nerve damage and I rotate through doxy, amox, other pharmas and experimental treatments and it is not fun

I have/had it and I had a fishing trip in canada on
Middle of June while on doxy, not a good idea!

I think they quit making it because no one would take it. Several years ago I got a lyme disease vaccination and haven't gotten it. I think about the time it came out Jenny McCarthy was blaming vacs. for autism and no one would take it.

From the CDC's website: A Lyme disease vaccine is no longer available. The vaccine manufacturer discontinued production in 2002, citing insufficient consumer demand. Protection provided by this vaccine diminishes over time. Therefore, if you received the Lyme disease vaccine before 2002, you are probably no longer protected against Lyme disease.

I am sorry to hear that. I hope you are successful with the treatment. I was bit last week by a deer tick and did not find it until the next day. I went to my doctor and got a prescription for 100mg Doxy for 21 days. Better to take the treatment, than to gamble on the test which is only 50% accurate.

Smart move. This can be a viscous illness

I got lyme about 15 years ago. Still have some problems with stiff neck and what not. It was caught within 30 days and use dox. for a month. Pets can be vaccinated for lyme but not us humans. Wife works for a vet clinic. Vets seem to know more about it the the family doctor. There are two test and one is more accurate from what I as told. Also sometimes it takes a while for it to show. I thought I was re infected and went twice this summer to be tested and it was negative. Found out I have a under active thyroid. Meds help but not 100 percent. Glad you got treated and hope there are no long term affects RF.
