skunk odor - 08/07/15 06:39 PM

Got a skunk call a few weeks ago. Someone had seen a skunk under a closed in porch a few weeks before but nothing since. There was an off and on skunk odor. I set my PVC pipe traps with no success. Then set larger cage traps. Caught 5 raccoons but no skunks. Meanwhile the odor got worse. I thought there has to be a dead one under there. The porch is built over a pile of bushel basket sized rocks with lots of places that a critter could crawl under. I have crawled around under there twice. Found a raccoon skeleton but nothing else. I applied a generous layer of EarthCare skunk odor removing granules and hung a odor removing bag but the smell is worse. Is there a odor remover that would take that odor away? My only other plan is to crawl under with a bar and try to move the rocks around to look for a carcass. Any advice would be appreciated. The odor is starting to get into the house.

1 qt Hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup Baking Soda
Good squirt of liquid dish soap, I like lemon.

Mix up and put in spray bottle, has to hit the essence or it won't work.

Do not try to save excess.

Good Luck

Believe it or not I have successfully used mothballs to eliminate skunk odor. By merely adding or subtracting the mothballs you can

regulate the odor and have them cancel each other out. My thought on this job is to find the 5 or 6 skunks that have died underneath

that rockpile first. We actually have Big Bob's formula posted inside the cupboard door for easy access to give to customers over the phone.

Now Paul that would be against the label of moths
Balls and would be breaking the law! And you would
Probably have to have a pesticide license

That formula works like a champ, I've only been directly hit once, was in the house within 5 minutes of applying to my skin, game changer....

When BigBob said "Do not try to save excess" what he meant was if you store whats left in a closed container or spray bottle, it will leak at
best and explode out at worst...

Kasey, you also need to have a disclaimer on the box stating that: "No moths were hurt in the making of these mothballs."

I have used the formula several times. I guess I better find the dead body first. I will be under the porch on Monday morning moving rocks with a bar.

Has it been humid or rainy when the odor got worse?

Trouble with using moth balls is catching only the boy moths without hurting the girl moths, and trying to clip them. Takes a lot of moth balls to fill a small bottle!

If I was gonna go to the trouble of crawling around under there, I'd spray the solution at least on all inner walls and larger rocks while on the way out from looking for the dead body...if not even on the crawlspace floor.
The formula is cheap to make...and it'd possibly save a trip under there.
