Bob and sons insurance is very good and you are not mandated to join NWCOA. The number for them is (260)726-3736. Very good people to deal with.

Just don't hold your breath waiting to get a copy of your policy. Renewed in June and still waiting. Same crap every year. Last year took 2 months. If you call them they will e mail you a temp copy.

I saved a lot and have twice the coverage with Bob and Sons.

I like the zero deductible with a CWCP with NWCOA insurance.

Bob & Sons wasn't affordable for me.

Re: Insurance - 08/11/15 06:36 PM

I found that the general liability was similar priced between the 2 companies for what I do. The difference came with the commercial truck insurance. Bob and Sons was about a third of NWCOA insurance for the same coverage.

Re: Insurance - 08/11/15 08:07 PM

There certainly are many different circumstances when getting insurance. Our bid was just the liability. Our vehicle insurance is

with Progressive. While you would think that bundling them together should be cheaper, that's not always the case, I guess. I am

perfectly satisfied with Christian/Baker and especially Jim Pace. I've been insured with them a long time and their service has been

excellent. We have a lot of companies that need copies of our certificates of liability and Pace's gang does a great job of getting

them sent out.

The only possible issues with Christian Baker I've ever seen is that you have to be a member of the national organization to qualify and you are limited to a specific number of insured individuals. I think Jim is a great guy and more than willing to work with anyone that needs help with claims, adding additional insured or getting certificates of insurance. Aside from these two items, it is simply a matter of shopping for the best price. At times it will be Christian Baker and at other times it won't. Personally, I've never had them as an agent as their first quote ($2,400) was almost $1,000 more than I was currently paying and their second quote ($1,750) was still several hundred more and if I wanted to cover anyone besides myself and one other, I had to pay extra which I didn't/don't have to do with my other and existing policies.

When I switched over from Central Insurance to West Bend, I went from $1,500 for a 1 mill policy to $358 for a 2 mill policy. Both policies covered pesticide application but for the first company it was an additional ryder ($158) while it was included with West Bend. I've been with West Bend now for over 4 years and my rate has almost doubled from my original price, but it is still the cheapest for me.

It is important to note that with West Bend, if you do more than 20% pesticide work your rates will go up dramatically as you'll be quoted a pesticide policy and not a wildlife control policy.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank WCT and all the rest of you for your patronage of West Bend Mutual. It is customers

like you that allow this company to have such a gorgeous campus and so much varied wildlife. We have excluded their pigeons and

removed muskrats, mink, raccoon, skunk, opossum, woodchucks, and bats. We also get our workmen's comp insurance from them. I usually

wear a sign that says, "Will Work For Insurance".

Re: Insurance - 08/12/15 01:21 AM

Paul, I asked them about being competitive. I was told that they usually have better prices until your company gets bigger,(15-20 employees), then they have trouble competing with Christian Baker.

Wow, that's much cheaper than the quote I got from West Bend, for just me, no employees, 1 million and coverage for truck/traps/tools. But I went through a local agent, and they may be jacking it up quite a bit. My quote was $1350 a year. I probably need to call them direct, and cut out the middle man.

Joshua, going with an independent agent is the best and your premium demonstrates it. I've been doing it since high school and I've

had same guy since we graduated. Fletch, I don't think it's possible to eliminate the middle man in this case. If insurance companies

beat their agents prices, they wouldn't have any agents. This works the same with every large manufacturer. Not all businesses are

created equal. I have a lot of guys to insure and I do the best I can. Insurance is one of those things that you hate to pay for,

until you need it, and then you're darn glad you've got it!

Paul, I definitely don't know exactly how it all works, but my insurance agent is just from an independent agency that is "non-affiliated" you could say. When I went to them for homeowner's or auto insurance, they run it through 7 or 8 different companies to find you the best price. I also use them for my electrical contractor's insurance, and they do that the same way. When I told them I was starting an ADC business, they acted like they'd never done anything like that before. I waited over a week and then mentioned West Bend to them because I saw their ad in my WCT magazine. So they got me a quote from them. They (my agent) said it was so high since it's a "specialized" industry. My electrical contractor's policy is not that high, and the liability risks of doing electrical work are much higher, IMO.

Can you not call West Bend directly?

Does that provide commercial vehicle insurance too? Will probably give them a call.

Re: Insurance - 08/12/15 12:58 PM

_fletch_,

West Bend is the underwriter for Bob & Son's just like Aegis is the underwriter for the NWCOA insurance. You'll need to go through an agent as most underwriters don't have a "set" policy but instead have the agents create policies from a list of "covered" activities/situations.

For the policies I posted it was strictly for general liability, no errors & omissions, professional liability, auto, or equipment coverage. I'd have your agent breakdown your policy and you'll probably see that the GL portion is around $400-$500. I'll never tell someone not to get a second quote and Bob & Son's is licensed to write policies in KY so I'd give them a call. Have them quote everything you currently have to see if they are cheaper, same, or more expensive and have them break it down as well so you can see if they are cheaper in one of the areas so you may want to get the better deal from the one agent on one part but then use the other agent for the other parts (i.e., GL insurance 2 mill policy may be like $430 from one while the other is charging $600 for a 1 mill policy).

So am I. We're almost full so it will be a fun class with everyone that is attending. Insurance is a good question so remind me if I forget to touch on it as you may need more than basic general liability based on the policy and what services are offering/performed.

My insurance through Bob & Son's is West Bend. Your rate will depend on your revenue.

Or what Eric said^^^ I didn't see page two of the thread.

Re: Insurance - 08/12/15 09:58 PM

depending on your operation....would you want to be quoted based on your revenue....or number of employees?

Anyway, I'm so glad to hear everyone being insured.

Re: Insurance - 08/13/15 12:49 AM

Dave, the only way I would win that one is if it were based on net revenue. This has been a great year for spending money; saving it:

NOT SO MUCH!

I'm just starting up, and part timing it right now, so my revenue was a projection and was really low. So, my next question would be, do you all cover your vehicles under your commercial policy? I didn't want to risk having stuff stolen and not being covered for it...

Re: Insurance - 08/13/15 04:17 AM

We have a commercial vehicle policy with Progressive and our two personal vehicles and homeowners is with Hanover.

Re: Insurance - 08/14/15 12:06 AM

I don't have commercial policy on my vehicles.

Re: Insurance - 08/14/15 12:47 AM

If you logo your vehicle and / or carry ladders it is a good idea to carry a commercial vehicle policy.
