Fox at school athletic fields - 07/17/15 02:54 PM

Hello All,

I got a call about a family of red fox living near/on a high school athletic field. The children's parents are nervous and want them removed.

I am not Mr. Fox trapper. I know red fox are hard to trap with a cage trap and if I use footholds I am afraid of dogs getting caught.

If I found their den and put coyote urine in the den would they relocate?

How can I handle this without making the six o clock news?

Thanks

Chuck

Find the den, catch a couple of pups in a some good cages, ( I use clean Wickenkamps ) and mom and dad fox will grab the rest and

relocate. If they're dumb, you may catch nearly all the pups but who cares; the money is good. I take the pups to a terrific rehabber

who raises them wild.

Paul

What do you use for bait/lure?

Coondog6, If you decide on using a cage a decent bait would be mice and tainted plums. If you're going to try to contaminate the den I'd use a chemical in the den to deteriorate the breathable air.

A little dry dog food dribbled into the cage ( You don't want to fill them up ) and a nice pile of wet dog or cat food in the back.

I'm starting to get the feeling that everything in the country lives on cat or dog food.
