Another penitentiary call today

Another penitentiary call today - 06/26/15 07:54 PM

Had a skunk problem in the exercise yard of a state housing facility today. In other words a state Dept. of Corrections prison. Guard towers, razor wire etc.

Was called into this prison about 10 years ago. Had a couple of juvenile skunks that wandered in under the radar and razor wire to cause a commotion. Always a good time doing this type of work. Lots of on lookers both out of the bullet proof narrow cell block windows and staff. Some were making bets as to how many times I would get sprayed. Had some disappointed folks I think.

Had some staff that wanted to help and were a big assistance in escorting me around the large facility to find the little stinkers. All went well without incident.

I was a bit surprised that some of the guards were expecting "Turtle man" and his antics when I arrived. One guard asked where my pillow case was to put the skunks into then spin the sack like a tornado. One wanted to know where Neil was.:) I was driving a Toyota though.

I swear that is exactly what some were half expecting and told me as much. LOL They said geez that was easy I could have done that. I said well, the next time this happens just take care of it yourself.

Then I could have sold the little stinkers for a good price each during the long walk out of the facility. Thru every check point and gate, scanning my UV marked hand I had interested folks. I guess I could have caused a stink if I just shook that holding cage a bit along the green mile walk way.

You can't make this stuff up. I think some folks really believe that true professionals conduct real wildlife business in the manner that they are shown on TV.

I guess I could have bartered a couple of get out of jail for free passes for payment instead of two jars of homemade peach preserves and a D.O.C. jumpsuit. smile

These men and women were professional and very well trained. A job that isn't for everyone but I am glad we have individuals that have a dedication for their positions. I always appreciate a fellow professional regardless of their line of work. My hat is off to these men and women.

Did any of the inmates wave and say, "Hey, I remember you. You were just here 10 years ago!"

Good story, Bob. Next time you go over there, say hello to Ma.

I couldn't really see well into the windows nor did I go close to bet a better look inside to see what it looked like inside or if I could see anyone. We were in the maximum security section of the yard housing. I just had getting my job done and getting back out before the riots could start. LOL

Do the riots happen on a regular schedule?

Not to my knowledge but fights occur regularly I am told by a guard.
