Interview Request - 12/18/14 07:45 PM

Hi All,

I'm a freelance writer from northern Wisconsin, currently working on a story about gray wolf management in the lower 48 following its delisting. I've talked to plenty of DNR folks, carnivore specialists as well as some anti-wolf hunt activists but now I need to get the trapping perspective. I have no trapping experience and was hoping to find someone willing to lend their expertise to my story. Questions would include some technical aspects (how one sets about trapping a predator like the wolf) as well as opinions regarding differences in state management laws, misinformation non-trappers often harbor and general thoughts on the controversy surrounding the new seasons. If anyone with experience trapping wolves in the Great Lakes region or northern Rockies would be willing to take the time to help me out, please email me, John, at johndoughertycollins@gmail.com as soon as possible. Many thanks and Happy Holidays.

Hi John,

Can you list more of your credentials and links to articles that you've had published? Wolf trapping is a hot topic button with individuals and their families having received death threats from certain groups once their names were known. By allowing people to read some of your work, it may help with getting them in touch with you.

John, you might want to include in your article that the Wisconsin DNR has worked out a deal with Kentucky to import more wolf food

in the form of elk. I guess our thriving herd of elk is not so thriving anymore with the large amount of wolves. We actually killed 4

more wolves than we were supposed to, so they'll probably close the season next year. Lots of rumors about wolves in southern

Wisconsin. Any iota of truth? I know some of our coyotes get pretty big so it was probably wrong identification.
