A question for you northern guys??? - 11/19/14 07:34 PM

I work for a company in South Carolina that is looking to expand their market into the North East.
What kind of business and for what animals do you all receive in the winter months, nov. - March

The majority of our business is with bats, snakes, and squirrels...basically what can I expect for business in the north east?

I have been in the top 5 out of 200 in salesman since I started with this company and with me being from New York I'm the most likely candidate for them to send back up that way (I love the idea)

Any input would be great fellas

Minus the snakes; and bats that died from white nose. You can add raccoons.

Get into the pest control business ( at least a little ) or you will not only be the salesman, but the technician, bookkeeper, and

janitor during those months you mentioned. Just kidding, but if your company has 200 salesmen, I'm guessing that you're a competitor

to every Southern guy on here and the Northern guys are not awaiting your arrival with any great anticipation. ( My guess is that at

least one of the other 195 salesmen suggested this move ) And since you're from New York anyway, wouldn't you know?

Expect very little, that's why I'm heading south for the winter. I lose $ in the winter. Yes and terminex is trying to buy out the wildlife guys up here as well. Didn't you do ACO work in Granville? Or just not in the winter.

We've already slowed down.

Yea not a whole lot of action in the winter though. Squirrels are not as plentiful up there as down here so winter time just seems like it would be slow, for us in the winter it's flyers and grey squirrels with a raccoon or possum thrown in

Paul yes we are a competitor with some people but also work along with some people. Our main forms of lead source comes from other companies referral and along with that we hand a lot of business to the companies that hand is stuff

Good for you. You'll probably get a kick out of this. Probably our largest local pest control company told a customer, " Yeah, we set

out the bait boxes, but if you want to have your house sealed against rodents, call Advanced Wildlife Control. Here's their number."

I am not making this up. I was there when the call came in.

So winter time seems to be more pest control than anything? And yes we get those same kind of calls where one company is doing the PC stuff and we are the ones who get to do exclusion. Unfortunately for mice a full exclusion is impossible

That's why you sell the package deal. Service call/inspection, bait attic and crawlspace, rodent exclusion and a bait program. Interior stations in basement and garage and exterior stations around the perimeter with a quarterly maintenance program. Then you have a client for life and a paycheck 4 times a year. The key is to get a few hundred of those every 13 week paychecks!
