Fence wrapping trees for beaver protection

Any experiences to share? Client wants me to wrap the trees around their pond to prevent losing anymore (when) the next beaver comes along and before I can get there to trap em out again.
Any experiences with 36" galvanized cage wire with 1x2" opening? That's what I'm leaning toward but wondering If others have had just as good a luck with 2x4" opening in a 48" height. Preferred support stakes?

2x4 openings will allow a small amount of chewing, so wrap it loose so they can't reach the bark. Tight wrapping of any size will cause the tree to swallow the wire.

Many of my clients have had success with chain link fencing yards and other areas to exclude beaver. Any decorative style fence should work as long as it's tight to the ground and doesn't have large openings.

I have seen beaver climb the fence and cut the tree down above it,,,,.......

I'm guessing that you plan to trap them during fur season, otherwise I don't understand your opening comment about waiting as you'd have to be onsite to install the fencing so why not trap the beaver at that time?

As for the fencing, how much longer is it before you can trap beaver, how many trees need it, what is the average tree girth you're protecting, is there a lot of encumbrances that will interfere with installation time, and will the fencing stay in place when you're done, or is this an install, trap, then remove project?

It looks like they want this as a preventative measure in anticipation of the next round of beavers Eric. The way it looks in the original post. They want wire on the trees so the next time they notice a beaver swimming instead of chewed trees.

Make it high enough that a beaver can't get above it when there is some snow on the ground.

I've already removed the beaver that was doing the damage but his pond is visited each year by dispersing beaver and they always take a few trees before he see's they're back and has em trapped. He's putting a house right next to the pond so wants to preserve the remaning trees. There are 58 I would say are "at risk". He's scheduled me to inspect the property 4X a year goign forward for rats and beaver. This is an add on.

Reminds me of a lady who screamed at me daily for a week for trapping muskrats and beavers by her house. Day 8 she awoke to a brand new cherry tree she planted being slid across her front lawn by the beaver. She was waiting at my truck to show me where she wanted the traps.

What I find funny is many HOAs I've had the pleasure of working around. First the lakeside homeowners have the problems but not the HOA board members up the hill so I get hired by a lakeside owner. I suggest fencing but the HOA won't allow fencing but ugly tree wrapping is perfectly acceptable.
