Do you guys put anything underneath your traps to prevent skunks or raccoon's destroying lawn or sod? I'm thinking some ply wood, but it would have to be thick piece to keep it from wobbling, or maybe a piece of metal.

What do you guys do?

I try not to trap them on the roof or lawn for that reason , If you really have to ,wire a piece of ply to the bottom of your cage to take the wobble out

I wrapped the bottom and sides with hardware cloth. Keeps them from trying to steal the bait as well as prevents them from pulling grass and dirt into the trap.

First of all we try to have at least a couple of 1/2 x 1 inch traps in each vehicle. That alone will reduce a lot of the damage.

Here is what I often do; A customer asked me to put a cage on her grass by the downspout for raccoons. I told her that setting my

trap around the corner of the house ( where the mulch was ) would keep her raccoon from prying eyes and that my lure was more than

strong enough to attract them. I used the same tactic behind the house and I was right. Happy customer = trapped animals & healthy

lawn!

P.S. Yeah, it took a number of "holes in the lawn" before I figured everything out. On the bright side, I have a bunch of cages I

can set in a customer's garden and they won't ever need a rototiller!

An architectural roofing shingle cut to size UNDER the trap works good.

I pick up mud flaps along the highway. The rubber is about the size of a raccoon sized trap with a little to spare on the sides.
I use them under traps to protect roofs and lawns. Over traps to provide shade and keep skunks quiet. Bent in a curve to use as a tunnel or to guide from a hole to the trap. Even have a couple with slots for body gripping traps.
Real handy.

I use the corrugated plastic signs that you see advertising on...very light weight...can cut to the size you need...also use them as my box trap covers...cut 3 pieces to size and put 3 or 4 holes along the edges and zip tie them together...cut a hole in the top for the handle...i paint my camo colors...and they fold up for easy light weight carrying.
