Duke cage traps

anybody use them? they look pretty good, better than the ones you get at tractor supply or havahart, I really like the advanced traps but they are alittle out of my price range for now but hopefully not for long, I know that quality on hurts once. I need traps big enough for coons and medium sized domestic dogs

Look at the Williams traps . Things are like tanks and price is like 35 bucks for a 12x12 . 25 bucks for a 8x8 . They also have a nice smooth action duke cage traps would be the last trap I would buy . Was looking at there squirrel size and the trip system just wasn't very smooth at all . The traps at tractor supply would be better than the dukes I feel . You can rework them traps to make them hold up better . Second why by traps made in Korea

I would have to agree for traps starting out Williams traps would be the way to go, just make sure to stake them as if a coon rolls them the door will open. As money comes in Comstocks would be the way I would go.

How about the traps that collapse, would anyone reccomend them, some of the large dog traps are pretty expensive but i guess i would only need just a few

maybe callorums might be a less expesive alternative

A collarum setup is about the same cost as a cage trap. You would most likely be targeting different critters with the collarum than you would with a cage trap anyways.

I have a few that I started out with, One coon broke a weld on the ring bar and Got out... I would stick with the http://www.advancedtrap.com/ like you said Quality only hurts once.

I agree with Scott. Go with quality. I remember when I first ordered them. They say you can stand on them. No way! Made in China.

Check this out. This raccoon snapped the weld as I was carrying the cage to release him. I use them for transport only. They also need to be staked since the door opens of they roll them. I ordered Scott's separator tools that I'll use at the door now when I transport.

I'VE GOT SEVERAL OF THE DUKE TRAPS AND HAVE CAUGHT ALOT OF COONS IN THEM. I'VE ONLY HAD ONE TEAR THE WIRE COVER OFF THE PAN. IF MONEY IS AN ISSUE I WOULD GO WITH WILLIAMS.I DON'T LIKE USING THE COMSTOCKS ON COONS BECAUSE OF THE TIME TO RETIGHTEN AND STRAIGHTEN THE WIRE ON THE TRIGGERS AFTER EVERY CATCH.

i have a bunch of duke HD coon traps and only had one weld break in 3 years. they are cheap so i got a bunch. i hog-ringed 1/2" wire around the bottom and sides to keep the digging down and they seem to work fine. I also wish i had all Comstock traps, but hoping some day thats all i will have. but when i run low on jobs... the dukes come out. i have the big dukes to. the 15"/14" (i think) and they are my go-to porky traps. cant seem to get them in the smaller traps. If i get one coon out of them.. they are paid for. and ive caught tons of coons and only had the one break.

I had the same exact thing happen! i posted a while back. all i got in reply was pictures of coons in the trap...so i musta been nuts.
whats a good non weld fix to prevent that other than the obvious

I got a few of the big ones for a beaver job last year they worked great. I have the smaller one for chip and they fire and work great also.

Duke Heavy Duty are good for the money.

We buy the heavier duty, more expensive cages now. I don't worry about the animals getting out, near as much as I do about the technicians we hire, throwing them around in the truck. ( Yes, this also refers to one of the owners and it ain't me )

relocated more then one otter to NM using Duke and ( Schrouder aka cagemaker on tman) traps

i do not think they are a good coon trap unless you reinforce the trip rod,...............

It has happened, that I know of, to one of my customers.

Duke has as a slogan "best trap value". I would say in most cases that is true of their designs. I own over a hundred duke 330's. The welds have broke on them more often than any of my other purchased 330's, but due to the ability to buy local and price I continue to use more of them. If others were considerably more effective I would change or at least try the other.

We have a slogan in my business, "setting the highest standard in cage trap design". I would say, in most cases, that would be true of our traps.So maybe, how you are using your traps may be best for your situation. When the trap limits the set, then maybe we need to use a different style or brand.

There are very good trap MFG companys out there. I believe there is no monopoly. Sometimes there are unforseen and unpreventable defects.

Just my 2 cents.

I am looking for a trap that can catch and hold feral dogs, thats why i said that the collarum would be a less expensive alternative. $150-$300 vs. $70. then again not sure what size trap a dog will walk into, but i want him to feel comfortable

Cage traps for dogs that work are really expensive to make and ship.

The ones our town use are 26" tall and the door sets at 22".

Here's a couple pics of one My cousin and I made for myself this summer. I think it will hold about anything I can get in it. I put some wheelbarrow wheels on it to help move it around where I need it, and just pull the pin and take them off.

These folks give a lot for/to trapping,,,,,, they are business men,,,, but they are people to,,,,......

Let him know so he can woop some chiaass,,,,,,,!!

They make a good transport cage thats about it. I have around 2 dz small squirrel traps in the duke brand most are used little if anyone is interested.
