Thats a prety neat little trap. I just wonder how it would do on a coon. That opposum looks like one of them from austrailia it looks to be coon size, but will our coons be more tempted to crawl ontop of the trap and dig from underneath causing the piston to strik its hand. plz keep us posted on his trials with this trap.

Check out the website. there is a smaller size, might work for squirrels, flying squirrels, chipmunks, plus rats.

Fill the bottom with grubs and set it for skunks.

Looks like a captive bolt, which would probably classify it as a kind of booby trap. No not that kind Paul.

How do I order some I truly need these traps . Also makes me wonder if you could make one of them electric rat traps work like that . They do work now but only catch one till that one is removed . That guy is going to make some money . Going to replace poison the way I see it . The weasel video shows how they would work for squirrel .

There's absolutely NO CONTROL over non-target "catches"... and this trap appears to be lethal.

Well I wouldn't worry about it Dave. We have no possums in the U.S. anyway.

Those traps are not very popular here in New Zealand as they cost a lot to buy in the 1st place ($150NZD) and cost to keep them going wth the gas bottles. we mostly use leg hold number 1 size traps for trapping here. possum numbers are pretty good (they are a real pest) and the money for the fur is very good(we pluck the fur by hand when the possum is warm and if the possum is cold then a machine with sninning rubber blades is used to rip the fur off the body) fur price at the moment is $125 per kilo smile

I'm probably going to agree with that to a certain extent and, yes, it IS lethal.

If the land owner is having a problem with possums, what's to keep a coon from getting tapped with this thing? Or vice verso? Few people are gonna stand for a pile of dead coons when they are having a possum problem. Then we run into a legal dilemma. And heaven help us is the family cat gets conked with it.

Further, I won't set a killing trap for possum in the spring and early summer at all. Too great a chance of killing Momma with babies in her pouch, and that's REALLY bad for our image.

When we write depredation permits here, we have to be specific on what critter we're after. If we catch anything else we must release it.... Unharmed. Some species we can relocate if we have written permission from the receiving land owner.(this option is becoming popular around here with squirrels) Killing traps take away these options.

Granted, there are times when lethal traps in our business are required but not this one. I see too many problems with this thing and think that we, as professionals, would be wise to steer away from them.

Just a thought.

Are you implying you wouldn't kill a mother possum full of babies ?

Hey LT, even I would imply that having a mother opossum lying dead with a bunch of babies crawling all over her for all the world to see, is something I wouldn't do.
