Sawdust, hay etc. fixing pond leaks from muskrats? - 07/16/12 12:45 PM
Got a couple of guys having problems from muskrats denning in pond dams causing leaks. Has anyone attempted to fix holes using wet sawdust or hay? I know there are clay product that can be bought, but trying to help the guys out.

Even the clay is not a sure fire fix. A leaking pond dam often requires excavation equipment to repair. I've never heard of anyone trying to use sawdust or hay to form a water tight seal.

The methods you suggest will not resolve the erosion and collapse issues as a result of muskrat tunneling. As stated reconstruction, excavation, sand bags, rip rap rock etc will be the more permanent fixes. No cheap or easy fixes for many of those types of problems.

Draw the pond down and pour cement . Bails of barly straw will help with algae bloom
