American Crow Seminar - 06/27/12 01:42 AM

Urban Crow Management Seminar

An Urban Crow Management Seminar will be held August 2, 2012 in Syracuse NY. It is sponsored by the New York State Wildlife Management Association (NYSWMA). The Seminar is primarily directed toward Municipal Officials in areas that have an existing or developing nuisance crow problem but anyone interested in learning about crows, the problems they may cause and potential solutions is welcome.
There have been a number of Upstate cities, including Auburn, Watertown, and Rochester that have had large numbers of crows congregate seasonally. The noise and crow droppings have created nuisance and public health concerns which required a Crow Dispersal Program.

The Seminar will be led by Cody Baciuska, President of the NYSWMA and a bird control professional who explained “Urban crows are an increasing issue across New York and the Northeast. It is vital that we come together and learn as much as possible about the most intelligent bird in North America” Presenters include Kevin J. McGowan PhD from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology who will speak on American Crow Intelligence and Natural History and Laurie Ulrich Fuller of the Lancaster Crow Coalition who will speak on Innovative Techniques for Urban Crow Roost Dispersal. Mr. Baciuska will describe and demonstrate Safe Use of Pyrotechnics for Harassing Birds.

The Seminar is scheduled for 9:00AM to 1:00PM August 2, 2012 in the Baldwinsville Lions Clubhouse, 1 Lions Parkway, Baldwinsville NY 13027. The Clubhouse is located in The Baldwinsville Village Community Park near the River.

There is no charge for the Seminar but pre-registration to NYSWMA@yahoo.com is requested.

We do crow roost site work every few years in our area.Like alot of pest birds and animals, conditioning and making an area unsafe or secure will give good results but reinforcement is needed over time to keep things that way. Good job security if the funds are available with the municipalities or businesses to keep up the program. Not much different then regular grass mowing etc just more $$ needed.
