Frogs EEK - 06/13/12 01:23 AM

Am getting paid to remove frogs and pollywogs from a large deep neglected in ground swim pool. This is more fun than I can even describe. We have nets, guns, traps, gigs and schemes. There is a four year population of frogs, and at least one snapping turtle. The neighbors complain about croaking noise. I am a kid again.

Yes Robert is all for the fun and easy jobs. Are you available to dangle from the 40's for cheap?

An electrofisher would make that job go real quick, they are pricy though, I wanna say 5 grand, but maybe half that. You could justify it for this job, and then always outfish your buddies.

I would tell the neighbor that my pool is green and green is the way to live these days .

Frogs, fish, crawfish, salamanders eyes roll back in their head and swim for the probe drawn like a magnet, you grab them with your rubber handled net. Use a net without a rubber handle and your eyes roll back in your head and so forth.

That could' be the trick I need , I just don't have the time to keep the freezer stocked with fresh fish . I could just float down the river and get all the fresh walleye my family needs

Pesky, put a rubber mat down for the net man to stand on and tell the DNR that you are an independent biologist hired by the lake fishing club to do fish sampling. You'll be fine.

Re: Frogs EEK - 06/13/12 01:28 PM

Down south they would use an old hand crank phone for the electrical current, and it was called Monkey Fishing.

monkeyfishing
n. catching fish by first charging water with an electric current, then netting the stunned or panicked fish. Subjects: English, United States, Florida, Sports & Recreation

Editorial Note: It is possible this term is specific to Florida. This term is apparently unrelated to monkeyfishing described in a hoax perpetrated on the online magazine Slate.

I guess just draining the pool would take all the fun out of it.

Seems to be lots of frogs around and lots of big ones . I've been tagging along with boys a few nights and were getting some dandy frogs . Nothing like wild frogs legs

Anyone know a college who wants lots of tadpoles and frogs for research?
