Newhouse #4 double long spring, offset jaws - 09/21/23 01:46 AM

I have some Newhouse #4 Double Longspring with Offset Jaws. I’m not familiar with them. Was curious if anyone could help me value them without just stealing them from me

Thanks! [Linked Image]

Yep, I have a few #3 Newhouse double long springs with offset jaws. Some of the government trappers/agencies were using them as traps research was being done.
There are many more knowledgable than me on this topic...so I'll shut up and learn. Nice trap!

Your raised-letter pan #4 ATC trap was made after 1976. Those jaws were last of 3 series of "heavy offsets" made by ATC. OC or OC Ltd never made a smooth offset jaw {without teeth) for No. 4 traps.

I can see 2 gate channel/sprue attachments from casting tree on both ends of top surface of your jaws in the pics, so they are genuine ATC.

Many thousands of these jaws were made from about 1937 until production ended in late 1980s. Up to mid 80's all of these offsets had part no A-299-5 on inside edge of jaw. They were extremely popular with Gov't trappers.

I don't put values on traps, but it is not rare.

The underside of the pan has A-30-1 stamped on it. Part number?

Thank you for all the information! I’m not planning on selling, was very curious about them though!

Montana Rancher, do any of your traps have any kind of stamping on them indicating they may have been a government trap or some other entity?

That can add some value.
