When/what for these traps?

When/what for these traps? - 10/21/21 06:57 PM

Howdy all from an Alaska greenhorn. Curious if anyone can tell me the era for these two traps, and what animal(s) they were likely used for? Was told these traps are from the late 1700's to early 1800's. Both still work.

Also the purpose of the hook on the chain of the left trap?

Thanks in advance.

The trap on the left is a hand forged trap, hard to tell the maker, unless it has a name on it. It is likely from the mid to late 1800s.

The trap on the right is German or French, it was likely for fox, despite its large size. Probably from the early to mid 1900s.
