Hudson Bay #0 - 11/21/19 11:43 PM

I picked up a bunch of traps tonight from a gentleman and this one caught my eye. It needs a little cleaning but I hope everything is correct on it. Please somebody chime in with your opinions.

It should have a 1967 date on the bottom of the base along with JAPAN, when and where it was manufactured. Looks like a nice trap and should clean very well. Good find!

Be careful with the cleaning. Collector traps are supposed to have a patina. Cleaning it to bare metal will decrease the value.

Warm water and soap and an old toothbrush. That is all you need. No vinegar. No metal wheels. No muratic acid. Just soap and water.

Plus I see that a owner prior to me looks like they spray painted the trap red. There is still some hints of the paint on the trap. Will that hurt the value?

The paint might hurt the value. Depending on the collector and how bad he needs/wants the trap.

A collector just starting will probably ignore the paint. If the collector is upgrading, paint will be a problem. IMO
