Cleaning rusty traps - 09/18/16 01:31 AM

I am kind of new to trap collecting but it is in my blood now. How is the best way to clean rusty traps. Can I use a sand blaster to clean them up. Or is there a better way. Any advice would be great. Thanks much!

One word - Don't.

Collector traps should not be cleaned with vinegar or chemicals or sand blasting. Cleaning collector traps to bare metal will lower the value. Collector traps are supposed to have tight rust. It is called patina.

You can wash your collector traps with soap and warm water. Using an old toothbrush to remove dirt and loose rust. Then dry thoroughly. Some collectors then coat with a very light layer of WD40. Do not paint, varnish or shall at collector for traps.
