Variations of the 114 Newhouse

How many different variations of the 114 Newhouse were there? And what years did they make the changes?

#114 Oc Pat Date Pan, #114 OC Pat Date Pan Govt. Prop. of the US., #114 Oc Pat Date Canadian, #114 Transition Pan with #4 Springs, #114 ATC stamped pan, #114 ATC Raised letter pan. Also you will have different chain set ups on These. I have the OC pat date Non Government with one having the shorter chain set up and one having the long 72 inch Govt chain set up. Have two Canadians with one having flat link chain to base link and swivel, and one having flat link chin lap linked on at both sides of the Center swivel, and both having the ovid Canadian ring.

What is the transition pan and was there a #114 with smaller jaw posts? Thank you.

No, That pan does not go on that #4 size base.

Most collectors do not realize that Oneida Community did not make a #114. The first advertisement I have seen for the #114 Newhouse is in the 1937 Animal Trap Company catalog. Oneida Community sold out it's trap business to A.T.C. in Feb. 1925 and O.C. did not list a #114. The #114 with the S. Newhouse, Animal Trap Company pan, #4 size springs and #4 size jaw posts that is commonly called a transition model trap, is actually the first model. It is referred to as a transition trap as a transition between O.C. and A.T.C. but there was no transition for the #114. In my opinion, they were trying to make a high grip #14 trap but the #4 size springs were not strong or fast enough to close the larger jaws. When they changed to the larger #4 1/2 size springs and jaw posts, they also used the Oneida Community pans so I believe that these are the second model. Some of the O.C. pan #114's have the early flat link chain but most have the later A.T.C. kinkless chain. I am not sure why A.T.C. used the O.C. pans, 1937 would have been 12 years after they bought out O.C. but that appears to be what they did. In the mid 1970's A.T.C. did the same thing with the #3 Newhouse and used the O.C. pan for a short time. The 3rd model pan is the stamped Oneida Newhouse, Animal Trap Comp. pan. The raised letter A.T.C. pan trap is the last model.
