Anyone have that one?

I have a Oneida Newhouse #114 from Canada also. It has GPQ stamped on the bottom of the cross. I was told that these traps were given to trappers to trap wolves in Quebec.

Great information! So there are some small Victors also. The USF&W tag is cool.

Seems like all of the state 3Ns are from western states. Anyone have any from say Oklahoma or Arkansas? Or other central or eastern states?

Re: Government traps - 08/25/16 01:57 PM

Well, I went and bought another trap last night after making this original post. It is a Livestock Protection Company (LPC) trap with APHIS/USDA on the pan. I have to admit I didn't know what APHIS stood for and had to look it up - Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service and is a division of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). It also has ADC on top of the pan and I'm guessing that is Animal Damage Control.

Another funny thing is I don't know what size it is but my guess is #3 1/2.

Does anyone know if these are common or uncommon? I got it for close to the price of a regular LPC so I think I did okay on the price.

LPC #3 1\2 - 6 1\8" jaws
LPC #4 - 6 3\8" jaws
LPC #7 - 6 7\8" jaws.

I have a few U.S.Govt. marked traps. My favorite Tx. trap is stamped:
TPACA - Tx. Predatory Animal Control Assn. - they were issued in 1929.

Nice Govt. traps Don, Thanks for posting the pictures. I thought for sure you knew what an APHIS is. Those are the little bugs that suck the life out of plants buddy. LOL

I'm not sure if this counts as a government trap but a collector told me I should take that square piece off and the pan might be stamped US GOVERNMENT.

Re: Government traps - 08/26/16 12:50 PM

Dale, it will have the arched stamped Property of Us on the round pan under the square. Take a chisel and cut the rivet's off and you will be able to see it. LOL

A guy just can't get away with nothing anymore!!! But what's life without a little humor..

I really don't go out of my way to collect government traps but this thread got me thinking. So I gathered up the traps I have with gov. stamps or parts and I am starting to accumulate a few.

Re: Government traps - 08/29/16 01:35 PM

Dang it Dale! I've got a rusty Old Timer pocket knife I will trade you for those old traps. The tip of one blade is broke off but now it makes a good flat head screw driver.

Seriously - if any of you guys have any to sale let me know.

Re: Government traps - 06/21/20 07:06 PM

I have a number one victor longspring with Wash. State Dept. of Game stamped on the bottom; only one I've ever seen. Talked to some old retired Game Dept. guys and they said they were used at fish hatcheries to catch Great Blue herons. Anyone else seen these?

Asking for a friend. If these traps are the "property of"some government agency how can you legally have them? I had a bunch and took a grinder to them to remove the evidence.

May have been used by a gov. agency,,,, but I doubt it is factory stamped.

Re: Government traps - 07/26/20 11:40 AM

Mine has similar "font".....and says:

Chas Howard 16 U S G

I assumed stamped locally and NOT at the factory.....for sure they look like individual letter/number stamps.

Thanks for the reply!
