Montana barn find ID - 06/27/16 01:17 AM

size is #3 No markings on pan, jaws or springs. One spring is thicker than the other. Suggesting one spring has been replaced. Cross frame is thicker than the newhouses I have.

Nice close up photos but I wish I could see the whole trap, top of springs and chain swivel also. Looks like an early Newhouse with forged spring, they had a thicker base. The thinner spring is a replacement as is the pan and chain. It should have a round cast pan and an oval long link chain.

Whats up with the twisted pan?

The pan is a replacement, it was made by a trapper. It was just easier to bend a piece of metal that way to form the pan shank. Some Blake & Lamb under spring traps have a twisted pan shank similar to that.

I think that pan was cut to that shape?
