Sterling MJ 600 - 04/25/16 01:51 PM

I bought three Sterling MJ 600s a while back they have a very big pan on them with cut out for the wire levers they have never been set and the seller told me that they were custom built years ago from the factory I was wondering If these three traps have any collector value they are very hard to set and I don't like the trigger on them.

I believe O'Gorman had them custom made for him by Glen Sterling. Not sure what they are worth though.

I have seen them with both pan types. One had the pan cut out for the wire levers and the other just a big square pan.

Not sure on collectors value but I would have those in the dirt catching cats and coyotes. Imo those are one of the very best cat and yote traps ever built

What was the extra wire on the springs for.?

Re: Sterling MJ 600 - 05/01/16 12:33 AM

That is what forms the actual spring and lever.

Re: Sterling MJ 600 - 05/03/16 12:25 AM

I think on the new style ones the lever and springs are a single bar we're the trap shown has two pieces forming the spring lever. Anybody no what this was for and why it was changed? Also don't believe the current models come with the dring on the end it's more towards the center slightly offset I thgt. Anybody know?

I THINK they did it that way on the older ones so you could change springs. I had some that had the separate springs n levers but the d ring was in the middle of the base plate. Never had an issue with them or the newer 500s

Wire levers will sometimes deflect or bend, I think this was why the extra wire is there
