Victor Trap Package - 03/13/16 06:36 AM

I picked these up today and was hoping to get some information on them. They are all victor traps in a plastic victor box that resembles a tackle box.The guy I got them from said they belonged to his dad and he thought he got them on a trial basis. The traps are still shiney with just a little light rust on some of them. I am sure they have never been set. There is only one of each kind of trap. A #1 long spring, #1 stoploss long spring, #1.5 long spring,#3 double long spring, #1 jump. #1 coil spring, #1.5 coil spring, #1.75 coil spring, soft catch fox wood stream, 110 conibear,22 conibear, 110 conibear holder, jiffy trap setter still in the package and 50 victor trap tags. Can anyone tell me when and how victor came about doing this and if there is any collector value as a package?

Thanks Mike

I remember seeing Victors adds in magazines way back maybe from the 1940's or later. It was trying to get young boys hooked on trapping.Early kits may have been cardboard or wooden boxes ? Sure someone else can set us straight on there age and history.Bruce

Bruce1, The boxes you are referring to were put out in 1917 thru the late 1920's. This looks like it is more from the 1970's or '80's. I have not seen this advertised before.

For the traps and tackle box show in the picture you are looking at mid '70's
These where produced by Woodstream to be used by trappers training instructors with in the state of PA and maybe other states also.

The package you have was put out for trapping instructors by wood stream in the early 70s partly do to the anti trappers issues that were going on at that time, Ohio issue 2 was a part of that program. I believe that Jerry Thomas who worked with wood stream at the time came up with this idea. This is part of the trapping instructor kits you could get along with a slide show for trap setting and fur handling and general rules and laws. My self and Tom Roig and several others did trapping education programs for trapping for about 8 or 9 years in north central ohio in the 70s. Lots of good times an memories
