35 Newhouse

Posted By: cohunt

35 Newhouse - 10/29/15 04:36 PM

Most likely have already seen this but for those who have not, a trap that appears to be a 35 Newhouse is currently listed for sale on ebay.

I wonder what his reserve price is. Will be interesting to see what the final bid is.

Thanks for letting us know.

Re: 35 Newhouse - 10/29/15 08:17 PM

As much as I would like to own it, the reserve price alone is likely too much for me, let alone other bids.

Re: 35 Newhouse - 10/29/15 08:22 PM

Actually, I have no desire to own it. I'm just not that into Newhouse traps. I know they are very popular with collectors, but unless they have Standing Bears, they just don't do anything for me.

I'm thinking there will be a flurry of last minute bidding and it will end up not selling. I don't know anything about the seller but I would want to see the trap up close before spending the kind of money it is probably worth.

Re: 35 Newhouse - 10/30/15 12:26 AM

Go ahead and throw a 10,000 dollar bid on it Jim...... You would be pretty safe not hitting the reserve but you could say you bid $10,000 on a trap..

I thought about it but if my better half saw that I might be in the doghouse for a long time!!!!!!

Re: 35 Newhouse - 10/30/15 02:11 AM

I had made a guess that the reserve would be about that and it looks like we will find out shortly Dale.

Re: 35 Newhouse - 10/30/15 01:30 PM

I doubt if 10K is the reserve on it. Tom showed me pictures of this trap last March at Sidney and ask me if I would be interested in buying it. He told me that a guy up in Alaska had it and was wanting $40K for it. I sent the seller a question last night to see if his trap and the pictures of the one Tom showed me might possibly be the same trap. The seller sent me a reply back and confirmed that it is the same trap.

Re: 35 Newhouse - 10/30/15 02:12 PM

So this is the same trap that has been shopped around quite a lot. Will be interesting to see if anyone else has as high an opinion of it as the current owner. In much of the collectible world 40K would be chump change but in the trap collecting world that seems like a very lofty figure.

Re: 35 Newhouse - 10/30/15 06:02 PM

It would be fun to bid on it knowing that you had no chance of buying it. Just bidding $10,000.00 on one trap would be a thrill. Guess I've still got a few days to think about it. smile

Re: 35 Newhouse - 10/30/15 07:06 PM

Nancy, the only problem with running a trap up that has an astronomical reserve on it is that anyone having a #35 or #25 that is unsure of the value will think theirs is worth whatever the high bid on this one may end up being. This one is a bit nicer than mine, and right now I am high bidder on it, so I will bid on it, but only up to a reasonable figure with in its value. It surpassed that 10K mark and is closer to 11K right now.

Paul: If she knew that I was even looking at that trap--well you know what happens if your eye happens to follow a well formed bottom when one passes!!!

Jim, The eyes depend on if that well formed bottom is carrying a #25 or a #35.

That seems odd. I just clicked Pauls link and it comes right up.
You could try a search for "35 trap" in the Antiques category. Make sure you are looking at the U. S. Ebay. You could probably even Google Newhouse #35 and it might come up.

Have you had problems doing other searches on eBay?

Re: 35 Newhouse - 11/03/15 01:45 AM

Never searched for anything cause I thought I was seeing them all. Now I'm not so sure, when I click Paul's link it comes up perfectly.
Just tried searching again with no luck. Must be some setting on or something

3 days left. $16,300 bid. Reserve bid not reached.

Re: 35 Newhouse - 11/07/15 11:45 PM

Be interesting to see if things heat up in a few hours. Some(many) reserve items do not get bid strongly because folks think the owner is just pricing the item. This trap is so scarce that it may be an exception.

21,650 with two hours to go and reserve not met. I'm getting some popcorn ready.....

Re: 35 Newhouse - 11/08/15 04:26 AM

No exception on this one! Almost 24k and no reserve met. I wonder if they'll sell it to the high bidder privately? I realize it's almost the holy grail but wowsers. That's a lot of money.

Re: 35 Newhouse - 11/17/15 07:36 PM

I think the holy grail is the #6 B&L that sold for around 44k last year...

Can someone fill me in on what the final $$ was??? And did it sell?
