? jump trap and Big Bear 110's - 10/26/15 01:48 AM

My son purchased some traps off of CL. He got 16 Big Bear 110's with strong springs. Does any one know where the were made and what they are worth? Also he got a old jump trap that is in bad shape. Anyone know what brand it is?

Your Jump trap looks to be made by Oneida Community, between 1906 and 1908. It was to become the "Oneida Jump". The "V" was not cut in the pan until 1909-1910.

Big bears were first made in Rahway N.J. then in N.Y. state but forget the town. Not sure if they were really made there or that was the distributer.

Regarding Big Bears: Made in Cooperstown, NY after the New Jersey years. Dave Scudder of Coopers Plains, NY (Near Corning) was a major distributor.

Terry Swartz of Pennsylvania did alot of field testing on Big Bear Traps,he would know about them. Many of there coil spring traps were not marked.Bruce
