New old traps

New old traps - 09/20/15 02:54 AM

With a lack of computer skills I'm desperately trying to post pics but until then I can describe what I picked up...
12 various dbl long from #3 and smaller
9 northwoods 1 1/2
15-20? Jump traps
8 120 conibears
10-15? Sgl long 4 stop loss type
The question is are the usable or should I sell as antique and buy some new.. They all seem to be in working order but most of them really old.
Part of the dilemma is for example my 3s I can only use for water sets to drown, not sure that will be useful to me starting out...maybe nutria? If they were offset they would be legal and useful to me..
Any thoughts? Pics coming...

Based on the pictures, I don't see any collector traps but there could be some there.

The stop loss traps are good user traps, especially for muskrats. As are the small body traps.

Depending on the brand, the jump traps are probably users. You might consider trading these for other user traps that you like better.

I see at least one Triumph in the # 3 double longs. Could have a bit of collector value there.

It is possible to make those # 3 double longs offset but I would make sure of what brand they are before making any modifications.

All in all, not a bad starter group of traps for a new trapper.

The stop loss and jumps are two of my favorite users, and they look good hanging on a nail in the shed/man cave.

The victor w the backup spring on it still works well even without the extra spring.

Looks like all the jumps are victor or they have an H stamped thru them..

When I bought these I was hoping to use them... So if I could sell/trade the ones considered collector for something I can use I'm in. So how to identify w/o cleaning?

Wylee, Were are you in western Oregon. I an in Myrtle Creek. The only trap of much value that I see is the #3 Newhouse. Not a lot of value, $20-30 and still a good user if the springs are strong. As far as making them offset, do not grind them. Put a spacer between the jaws in the corners. It can be done in several ways.

I'm in bonny slope west of portland, last generation of hillbilly up here..I'm surrounded by unknowns now, all the fields and wetlands r gone:/ thanks for the no grind info, I had thoughts about a spacer as well..good confirmation. I looked up an old thread on here but was just laminating and plating...also got another bit of good info there about offsetting the chain.

Re: New old traps - 09/21/15 01:56 AM

So I've narrowed it down took some better pics and found 4 more traps of interest. Not sure if I shud take this to the trap shed or here?
I am not interested in collecting at this moment, more interested in catching. So value these as u will and know I may b well more interested in trading for users. Otherwise these will sit. Also planning an Alaska move and will not b able to take many of my other collections...will bring that up later.
#3 Newhouse-2 of these one is painted

#2 Newhouse-1 of these

#3 triumph-3 of these

#3 triumph coil-1 of these, it says kangaroo on it

#2 Oneida jump-1 of these

#4 Oneida jump-1 of these

#3 victor jump-1 of these and has teeth protrusions=can't use in oregon
